New to me: 2014 Tacoma D-4D

Finally got back into a Tacoma! Just purchased this 2014 Tacoma D-4D with 36k miles. Found it locally on Facebook marketplace. Apparently DieselToys did this swap a few years back. Truck went into limp mode twice on the drive home but I am 90% sure it’s something simple. Restarting the engine cured the limp. I will keep this post updated after I get into a little more.

so far truck looks clean almost like the swap is working well

 

Did the seller disclose the issue? Thing is so sweet and crazy low mileage too.

Found it at a used car dealership…no disclosures and was sold as is. I was told the previous owner was military and had orders to move to Alaska.

Seems like a great deal or a lemon. If you get limp mode problem figured out cheap and easy it's a great deal.

I've heard the 'military' story a bazillion times regarding vehicles over the years.

I hope yours is true and its problems are easy to cure

Alright. Once it is running right, the world needs to know the gas mileage, and can it fit 35's?

 

You mean MPGs, right? Because it's technically not 'gas' mileage, it's 'diesel' mileage.

And at the cost differential I see at the pump on diesel it would have to be a hefty increase to reach a break even point........

 

Seems some of you are unaware of these trucks? There's a handful of good videos on youtube:

 

If it's right it should get somewhere close to 25-30mpg with more torque than a V6

 

But I am highly skeptical because it's virtually impossible to find a regular gas powered 14 trd sport with 36k miles on it for 26k let alone one with a 28k diesel upgrade.

 

Hell you and me both…seems to be in great shape though. Motor sounded good and drove like factory. Worth a shot!
