    Hi all,

My truck got rear-ended while parked and has been at a body shop since August 3rd.
The main delay for the shop was getting a new frame in, and it finally arrived on November 22.
Since then they have not made a lot of progress, and they keep pushing the date of completion further into 2022.
I wanted to see if I can get anything for not having my truck for over 5 months, or I´m basically SOL.

Here are some photos of the truck that I took a week ago. Any advice is appreciated

    thank you!

Damn. How bad was the damage that it required an entire new frame?
Unfortunately I don't think you can get any compensation as long as they gave you a rental car, but your state laws may be different.

It bent the part for the frame in which the leaf springs are attached. A whole new frame for that. And as for the rental is out of pocket until the repairs are done, so I´m already in the whole for a couple grand..

So it arrived 11/22. Really they have had about 3 weeks to work on it, plus most body shops are set up for a full chassis swap. How was the truck not totaled or did you buy it back? Curious.

I don´t understand the point you are making. They keep pushing the completion date further into 2022.
Insurance decided to pay since my truck apparently is worth 20,000$

I believe the only compensation you have coming would have been in rental car charges paid by the other guys insurance. Since you’re saying out of pocket, looks like zero.

You could rant and rave when time to pay at the body shop, maybe they’ll cut you some slack, maybe.

Supply chain issues affects everything so still looking like zero.

I'm stunned that a 2006 would qualify for a new frame rather than being totaled. Stunned.

So did the person that hit you run, and your insurance is covering this?

Or did they do the right thing and stay around, and their insurance is paying?

If theirs is paying, rental for you should be covered.

If yours is paying, I suspect rental would only be covered based on you having a rental rider AND the limits (if any) of that rider.

Your agent is who you need to talk to, not us.

The person stayed and their insurance company said that they will reimburse me for the rental once the repairs have been completed.
I also thought my truck was going to be totalled but I´m happy it wasn't!

If that’s the case, get in touch with their insurance, see if you can get a partial reimbursement for your expenses, or see if they’ll take over payments.

Good for them! Nice to hear that some honesty still exists!

I'd try a call to them and explain the ongoing time situation, and ask for reimbursement for what you have already spent. Then maybe negotiate a once a month reimbursement, just to keep you from being over extended.

Maybe even speak to the rental agency about the possibility of direct billing.

When you say further into 2022 did they say February, March, April? Most dealerships doing a straight frame replacement can’t get it done in 3 weeks. From the date of the frame arrival to completion depending on what body/paint work also needs to be done, if think it would be a 2-3month time frame. The frame showed up at the worst time possible with basically 3 holidays in last five weeks of the year. But yes the shop needs to be able to give a projected finish date. Good luck and keep us posted.

And you shouldn’t be footing the bill for the rental the insurance company paying should be.

Your experiencing the long economic recovery pains from Covid that’s been on the news for 2 yrs now.
They can’t get parts and that’s why it’s taking so long. It’s the new normal.

Sorry for your troubles, that’s a bummer man but glad you’re keeping your truck and getting a new frame out of it.

Same. Even if the truck is worth 20 grand, these repairs must be in the neighborhood of 15.
Also op, I hate to bring bad news but never in a million years would I want a truck that had the frame replaced by a body shop. I've had just a few cars you need body work in the last 30 years or so and even from the most minor work, there is always something loose, missing or out of place.

They quoted me 16,000$ for the repairs, it doesn’t make any sense!
And I hope they don’t! I’m pretty on top of the repairs, and the body shop manager and I have good rapport, so I hope they do okay
