so i got my bestop supertop in the other day. i figured i'd try to install it. i read in the instructions best above 72 degrees. well, it was about 30 today. so last night i pulled all the top material in the house to let it warm. i figured it would help. wrong... i got 90% done with the install when i realized this just wasnt going to work. too cold for the material to stretch any. when i went to put the windows on, i was about 1/2 off somewhere with every window, and the middle was up a lot higher than the front. it says in the instructions to take care of taht, just put the front up another click. well, there just was simply no more give in the material. with it gettin dark, i just decided to bag it til spring when its warmer out. real kick in the butt, i had it all about 90% finished and when i went to button everything up, just not enough give in the material. they arent kidding best above 72 degrees.

in the winter, you can set them out in the sun on the driveway and they get pretty warm, unless it's windy. (done that with a jeep top, pretty much same thing I guess)

 

Can't you loosen the support brackets,zip up windows,and than tighten brackets? That's how my cj5 and brothers 88 4runner worked best

 

i've had that problem with my old jeep before and it sucks. on a more positive note it was in the upper 70's here today, perfect temp for putting those tops on

 

Yeah, it sucks. I sold mine and helped the guy put it on. The whole time I was saying "it sucks cuz of the weather!" Hopefully he'll pull it off sometime in spring and realize I was right.

 

Once its installed can you put it up and take it down in cold weather? I'm about to sell my camper shell and get one.

 

I've been there. I waited until November this year to put the soft top on my FJ40 for the season. The day I decided to do it the temp was about 35. It took about 2 hours with lots of persuasion from my heat gun but I finally got it on.

 

i was thinkin about a heat gun, but at that point it was getting dark.. so i'll mess with it another day.

 

I put mine up and down all the time on runs. My Rtt is under it so I have to deal with it every night and mourning. If it is frozen in the Am I just throw it up loose and hit the road. When it warms up I throw another click in the front support. On the other hand if I screw with it long enough during breakfast and packing up I can generally get it buttoned up all the way. Only one time I didnt feel like screwing with it when it was really cold and wet so I just left the windows out till later when it warmed up a little.

 

i think i had such a hard time cuz of the temperature and the fact that its brand new. i bet once i let it hit at least 50 out, and work the material a little at a time it'll work just fine.

 

I have no doubt you are correct. Even installing it "cold" was not difficult, granted it was already "built" and was simply transferred to my truck.

I can tell the top shifts ever so slightly depending on ambient temperatures and conditions. I adjust it here and there after periods of snow and ice account for sagging and to see if any clips have loosened. In the spring I will get it adjusted perfectly but even now it works brilliantly.
