Water Crossing how do you do it

I second the taking off your pants part.

 

I have never owned, nor ridden in one.
Past off road toys mostly consisted of Banshees, 450R's and the like.
I find myself living in a place where if I get caught on one of the above, it will likely be seized.
I can however, tag, insure, and ride a SXS just about anywhere I want to in my general vicinity. Lots of off road, with some on-road getting there.

I've had a deposit down on an X3 RR for a couple months, it has now arrived my dealer, but like many being delivered to dealers right, it's missing the ECU, and the dash. Can-Am says 1-3 months out before the parts catch up with the machine.

This has given me time to question and consider what would have otherwise been considered an impulse buy...

 

It's extremely fun to drive. That's for sure. IMO CanAm is in a better spot right now than polaris, but i can't really speak to the SxS vs No SxS question.

You won't be disappointed if you get in an X3.

CanAm had a huge fire this year at a their manufacturing plant in mexico, which didnt help the supply issue covid started.

 

My biggest concern, outside of overall reliability, is the cab noise.
2022's, as you may already know have switched to the P-Drive clutch, which it has been speculated, was to reduce clutching noise.
So few 2022's in the wild right now, that it hasn't really been confirmed at this point.

 

Yea, the fire set them back a few weeks, but right now it's all about the chips..

I did some water crossing a couple months back and I'm pretty sure the rear diff went under water quite a few times. My truck hasn't had any issues yet. Should I start to worry now and possibly change my rear diff fluid? I had it changed less than a year ago.

 

theres a breather on the diff on the top, when its hot it breathes in and when wheeling the diff is hot and when you cross it breathes in the water. I dont know how deep you went but if it was deeper then halfway up your wheels i would and id buy a rear diff relocator, pretty easy diy.

 

How do I cross a flash flooded highway 350 miles south of the border in Baja? Uneasily! We waited an hour and watched the water subside 5’ judging by the smegma and flotsam line on the road. Slow, also raise your rear diff vent tube. Mines above the bed line

I've also watched a bunch of "pro's" (basically anyone willing to wade water taller than I am comfortable with) do it and they all do it slowly due to the intake and to avoid getting water where it should not be. I think this also creates a wave pushing in front of you in some situations, making visibility easier? I dunno, they just make it look easy and cool. When I do it, I hit a big ass rock nobody knew existed. The Jeremy Clarkson approach. Speed and power!

The thing that TV shows and YT videos don't show is the scouting before hand. I'd bring someone along that I don't mind losing in a flood and have them test it first. If they float away, that's a big nope for me.

 

I would change the fluid if it were me. Cheap insurance less than or around $60.00 if you do it yourself. I suppose if you had a clean container to drain it into then reuse it if it's not water contaminated.
I have Jeep to off road in and changed the fluids after last Jamboree, had lots of rain and water crossing, even driving up creek...the fluids were still good but I just put new in anyway

 

I had to replace mine a month after changing it. I sucked water in just going through a few long puddles about halfway up the wheel. I would at least check and see if it is cloudy in some way. Definitely do a breather mod. It costs less than the fluid not to mention the potential damage to actual parts.

 

Well, sort of....think of expansion and contraction, when it cools down in the water is when it would have a potential to suck water in.
