I need a truck, I definitely know I need a truck, and I have a truck; When I got my learner's permit back in 2009, my parents said they'd buy me a new vehicle to replace our aging 1996 Pathfinder had been relegated to third vehicle status. I said I wanted a pickup truck or another a SUV, and my two biggest requirements were that it had A/C and an iPod hookup; My parents bought me a brand new 2010 Tacoma, and I'm still driving the damn thing! If I ever have kids, I will buy a 4-door truck with at least a 6-foot bed.

I just looked at a 2018 Access Cab SR on Carvana; 2.7L/auto, 2WD, and it only had 16K miles but they want $30K for the damn thing!

In 2019, my uncle paid $25K for a 2017 AC TRD Sport 2WD V6/auto with like 17K miles; My uncle is also a millionaire and paid cash for his truck. I hope to be in his financial situation someday, but I can't afford to pay cash right now. Also, $30K for a base model 2WD Tacoma is ridiculous!

And I'm their unofficial consultant on decking that truck out; Since it's a teenager who's gonna be driving it, Gwyn thinks a backup camera would be a good idea, and I've also talked her into some WeatherTech accessories...

You don't need to post it publicly; I've got a pretty vivid imagination, but you can PM it to me...

Actually I just looked at the Monroney sticker & it lacks intermittent wipers so that would be a no go for you. But I'd been looking at the new Tundras & saw some new Tacos in the $30K range. Have no idea what a Maverick costs. You might consider a 2021 or a CPO. I'm going to shut up now my man, since while you asked for suggestions I really don't want to be advising you what to do with your hard-earned cash. I think you should run the whole thing over with your Dad.

Intermittent wipers are standard now; I'm not getting rid of my Tacoma. I talked it over with my parents, and I came up with so many good reasons not to sell it that I lost count; I want a house before I turn 36, and buying a new vehicle that I really don't need will not help me in that respect!

Also, does "Utility Package" mean no backseat? At least there's room for me to put a 12-inch subwoofer!

Don't know. You'd have to look at the Sloane link I posted, the Monroney sticker on the site, & the Toyota site. But if your focus is on buying a house, which IMHO is a good idea, it's folly to even be looking at new trucks.

If something happened to mine tomorrow, I'd use the insurance payout as a downpayment on that white one; I would buy a new Tacoma over just about anything else in a heartbeat!

In some parts of Nevada, that second one is actually legal!

    I don't know much about the 2.5.

However. The Ford ranger has all that stuff, and has the 2.3 which is one of the best engines going. Single turbo instead of twin, and the only issues they've ever had were because the wrong head gaskets went on during an assembly run in Spain on the .... Focus back in like 2013-2015 timeframe. Otherwise that's a damn solid engine, and behind it is a damn solid 10R80 transmission.

If I didn't get a Tacoma it would have been the ranger - hands down. The only other contender is the 2nd gen frotnier with the VQ40 but I drive a ranger and that was a nice ride.

The ONLY thing I don't appreciate is the proportions. The bed sides are taller than they should be it just looks out of place.

Edit I forgot what I was going on about. The Maverick I'm sure will be a fine vehicle. But honestly if you're looking for a pick em up that size, I don't see how you can pass up ranger.

And the bed is damn near useless compared to what my truck has!

    Wow. You ain't kidding.

    https://www.akinsford.com/blog/2022-ford-maverick-bed-dimensions-and-features/

4.5 feet. There's a picture of a cooler in one on that site. That's.....sad.

But - that's what people want. People bought F150s and complained about the mileage. They made the ranger. They complained about the mileage.

People want a truck without it being a truck. :notsure: just see how many people post about coming to a Tacoma from a WRX and complain about the suspension
