So I'm planning a trip across the mountains and it's been snowing lately and my 4x4 won't engage and it's always been a little finicky but this time it's definitely not turning on. My actuator runs off vacuum the actuator itself works but I have no vacuum and I cannot find anything about the ADD vacuum system. Do you guys have any idea how to fix this I appreciate anything.
    thanks
    Kalvin

It's less Tacoma and more mod
There are two little solenoids on the drivers side inner fender near the exhaust manifolds, check the vac lines going to them. There is also a vacuum canister in the drivers wheel well near the front bumper, its a black cylinder, cant miss it. Check it for rust holes and check the vacuum hose going to it. You can also check the ADD actuator at the differential, sometimes the diaphragm can rust out too. You'll have to remove the skid plate to access it. I can get a pic of a spare one I have if you need one to identify with.

ya i saw that too im thinking on swaping this spring

ya i took the actuator off this morning and blow air in the lines and it moved so i figured my vacuum is messed up and when tested going into 4x4 there was no suction in the lines

yes actually i should've said this but it happened right after i installed jba uca and new cv axles but idk how that changes the 4x4 engagement

the only ballpoints I've replaced was the uca install the new ones

I remember having a tacoma with that system. It stopped working normally, I ended up switching the vacuum lines around and it worked. Downside was I had to move the lines everything I wanted 4wd.

Maybe someone can chime in, because I don't remember which line I moved or where.

True, lower ball joints are no joke. Bad stuff happens when they fail. They will 100% fail when worn.

just follow all the vacuum lines and make sure they're all connected and good, or just replace them all right out. it's relatively cheap, you only need like 15 foot of 1/8th vacuum line and you'll have extra after doing them all. mechanics are very simple. you can even get a basic vacuum pump to find the leak

that's odd..... that alone shouldn't cause the problem. look for more. like that one hose with a crack where the throttle body meets the plenum.
