Much appreciate all the advice, got a nice selection of video lessons to try out, will settle on one I like and try to stick with it for a bit each day.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
As I mentioned before, I was in a band with my best friends in the 90s called Saliva. Grunge/Alt was in and we most definitely was my whole life. I woke up in a basement filled with the smell of ashtrays and soft drinks, the hummm of someone leaving their shit on all night was ever present.
The army cargo net hanging over my matrix that was on top of a beat to shit pool table.
My parents were the most awesome parents one could have. They let us play all day and night. I remember my mom yelling downstairs, if you play that Nirvana song one more I am gonna rage on all of you!!! Lol
I can hear her now as I kicked the the bass drum as loud as I could, to signal it was time for her exit.

Somehow we had gotten a shit ton of badass equipment. I mean the shit you your with. I guess the pawn shop near us was loaded with goodies!
I was rocking a mid 90s MIJ Jazzmaster in tobacco sunburst…and enough electro harmonics to creat any sound. I loved my Dean Marley Tube Distortion called The Overlord…was thick and had the chunk! While my HyperFuzz would dial in the amount of breakup. I think all my sticks were tuned to D, even the acoustic lol

The sounds of Mudhoney, Meat Puppets, Sonic Youth, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Stereolab and the list was huge and went on forever.

As an artist and someone who plays all instruments. I can easily say that what I experienced as a kid was nothing short of straight up bliss!
We packed the basement every Friday night for years.

Looked up ole Justin on YT and I guess his stuff is mainly through a paid site? I did find a nice 8-minute video on chords, learned D and A, got decently good enough at the transition to do it in the dark, called it a night. Was super joyful to hit them correctly back and forth a couple times. Love the sound of an acoustic guitar.

Justin’s website is very similar to his app. I subscribed to the app and it’s basically a bit more polished with having the chord change challenges built in versus having a go to different sections on the site.

Really good advice. Usually takes me about 20 minutes before I get loose enough to start playing good. I have to do neck a shoulder yoga now because my neck muscles get so tight from playing. You ever experienced that?

Do you play Classical Guitar stance or over your predominant knee?

Try holding it classical style, the guitar neck is know way more accessible this way, and a lot less neck stress.

I remember you said you mainly play sitting. So try and mix that position up, or get up every so often.

I'll try that out. Yeah, I sit a lot. I almost always have a guitar in my hands if I just watching TV.

Word. I enjoy changing things up, not to just relieve stress, but your fingers and hands become stronger and I feel that it’s easier to sweep your hand up and down the neck this way.

Hells yeah man. Many a song were made with 2/3 chords. Your on your way! Remember, hitting the note will come…at the same time you need to bring your soul into this, and that is rhythm. Start tapping your fingers and hands to the beat on your steering wheel, listen to a lot of different types of music.

The best musicians I have ever heard are bringing it all together, not just technical ability, but the ability to tell a story with ones hands is crafted and honed.
Comes easier to story tellers and artist, so start expressing yourself bro! Even with the 2 notes!

Also listen to the music you enjoy and start picking apart how the bass, guitar and lead work together.
The bass is the backbone, making the foundation. Rhythm is the melody creating the stage for both lead and bass to work off one another.
What I am getting at is, that if your conscience to this, you will begin to create melodies in your head. It’s actually quite easy once you start layering it up.

When I started I could think about and hear what I wanted to do…hell I could hum it out. That’s how when I was a kid I started creating my own music. There is no right way, just a shit ton of ways. Every time you pick it up you are getting better in some way.

I grew up learning how to play on a white on white roadster 2. I think it was a pearl white and the pick guard was either eggshell or faded, maple neck, beautiful guitar to play on.

I just need that green 520 near the middle and i'll have all of them. I've ran across a few for sale, but not in the 9-10 collector grade that I need.

He has a site, but unless something changed, his beginner classes are free? It’s not until you get to some of the other courses like Music Theory that you pay a small fee. I think I pay $9 every six months for full access to his lessons. Which - is amazingly cheap compared to what you would pay for a weekly class. He’s also done an amazing job at updating his website, so it tracks what you are doing and provides you an easy way to access courses. He’s done really good things, specifically over the last year or so.

    www.justinguitar.com

His YouTube stuff is great, but if you want to build and have the structure of each lesson building off of the prior, it’s an amazing way to learn.

And enjoy that D to A stuff, next you can add in the E, and depending on how you have your fingers, you have an anchor finger and can switch from all three chords fairly easy and start playing a multitude of songs!

Beautiful post! I don’t think I’m a musically creative person, and I think that comes very naturally to a gifted few. I’d be happy to just play some songs I love.

You’re right, beginner lessons are free, going to start tomorrow. If they’re good I’ll make a donation.
