Just verified it, 100% Transmission.. no warranty as expected

I'm pulling the trigger on an RC62, to be honest that is my only way forward, as an RA is just too old for availability, a new RA is about the same budget as a used RC project, and I can get an RC shipped over from an '18 with less than 20k km..

and with all the added benefits of a better trans.. but still, this should have never happened..

I will be tearing down the RA after the swap to see exactly what went wrong..

    Happy almost new year!

Curious to hear what the issue was and also how easily the rc62 bolts up.

As far as the RC, I've been reading this thread by

    BillDaCat8

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/6-speed-shenanigans-ra60f-swap-to-rc62f.701237/

and it's very thorough, its mostly bolt up except the drive-shaft must be shortened and some trim work where the shifter comes through the trans-hump. I'm including the 2018 DS to hopefully fit, otherwise I would have to send out the Original shaft out, which I don't know who as of yet, but it will be figured out..

Your driveshaft can be shortened and balanced at any driveline shop for about $100.

Sorry to hear this happened. Please post if you happen to figure what happened to the transmission internally to cause it to fail. I am a fellow 6 speed owner... I've towed quite a bit with it across the US (heavier loads then I probably should have) and now I am a bit concerned. The throw-out bearing design has given me grief in the past (noisy bastard) but nothing else with the actual transmission so far (knocks on wood). I replace the trans fluid with Motorcraft synthetic every 60k miles to be safe but you never know.

thanks, I will be opening up the case as soon as I can.. I have a feeling that shift fork fell off, but it still rows through gears normally. The flange out the TC is solid locked, input is loose... TC works as it should..

yes found one near by in another province, 2 hour drive no biggie...

You could try asking a typical machine shop too. They could probably get it done just as easily. Though I suspect if you don’t have a driveline shop within 2hrs then you probably don’t have a decent machine shop close either.

The Motorcraft Synthetic (XT-M5-QS) is nice, I replaced my factory fill (no issues) at around 30k and it seemed to make the shifting slicker for lack of a better word. It will never be a sports car naturally but it was an improvement just the same. The Motorcraft fluid is the recommended viscosity and carries the correct GL-4 rating.
Rock Auto had the best price.

    My shit is all stock.
Sure thing. I’m here. @rheath08 is floating around as well. He’s done this swap too. There might be even more guys that have as well at this point. I’m not sure. Hopefully they pipe up.

In the interest of having all of this info in more-or-less one place; I do ask if we can keep the technical discussion over in my other thread.

Nice! Looking foward to seeing the progress.

Although I'm surprised to see another 6mt issue. I just read the other day about the shift fork essentially falling apart. Is everyone just crashing through gears like it's a sports car? I've (fingers crossed) never had an issue w/ this trans/clutch.
