But wait, what about positive reviews of Tacomas? Are those sponsored? Is nothing real anymore?

Used to be into the vintage stuff, kinda over it now ever since getting the new truck, looking forward to what the 4th Gen brings.

My wife wanted to keep the 1st Gen for some reason, am trying to talk her into selling it and another vehicle we have for a new 4Runner.

There’s always something you don’t like on a truck. You like some of the items and you don’t some. Depending on the person, some things are important and other things aren’t. Personally, Tacoma’s interior being basic makes no difference to me. As long as the interior is dark, I’m good. Too much work to care for a luxury looking interior.
Of course, there are few items I don’t like about my Tacoma, and the reviewer mentioned a couple of them in the review. I’ll give him on that. I noticed that the reviewer appears to point out only problems rather than some of the pros. For that he is a dush.

Tacoma has been the top selling mid size truck. That’s for a reason. That’s because it’s good. Why upgrade/change it when they can sell a lot of it without making any changes? Plus, if they upgrade it, price will go up to consumers.

However, it’s his opinion and he is entitled to it. Those are his personal reasons for not getting Tacoma.

Brian Normile is right, I would never recommend a Tacoma to a normal truck buying person. Tacoma isn't a great cargo hauler, it isn't a great tow vehicle, it gets low gas milage, is has a harsh ride, it's slow 0-60, it has blind spots, is has a cheap key system, the stereo system is not the best, etc etc. I always discourage anyone that ask me about buying a Tacoma. Do not buy this truck if you are a regular person that just wants to drive to work and back and around town or on highway trip. This is not the truck you are looking for. I know a guy he has a Diesel 2500 something, a Wrangler, and a Razor. That's cool because it's America. I drive past the Rams, Fords, and Chevy's, parked with their toy hauling trailers, and go out in the desert in my Tacoma where the Razors and buggies are playing. These Folks spent at least 4 times what I did to get out in the desert to have fun and they look a me like I am an idiot for taking my Tacoma out there.

I think most people who buy a new Tacoma would be just as happy in an old Tacoma.

Yes, purchased my 2020 by phone sight un-seen. This was partially based on my crappy experience on a brand new 1989 Ford Ranger. Sold that junk for a Brand new 1992 Toyota 4X4 Truck. Drove it for 14 years and 2 head gaskets later all covered by Toyota. Wife & I drove and explored with that Truck everywhere. Never let us down or stranded.

Had kids, had to sell the 92 and could not afford a new 4 door 2006 Tacoma so I got a used 2003 Pathfinder. Drove that for 15 years. Don't make the Pathfinders as good anymore. Finally was able to get into the Tacoma I always wanted. Power adjustable drivers seat was a big deal as my wife needed to be able to drive it.

Seriously considered an eco boost F-150 for our family of 4 based on my experience with my Foreman's truck. Nice in many ways but remembered my experience with my 1989 Ford ranger and how Ford treats it's customers. Also long term reliability was a concern.

Wife & I both love the Tacoma. With the DCLB we make it work with the 2 kids no problem. We are so happy to be in a Toyota Truck again. Yes, part of that is nostalgia and all the fun we had with our 92. However, we keep our vehicles a long time and the Tacoma was a no brainier for QDR. In hindsight I can't believe we purchased a $50k CDN truck without even a test drive. However, research, word of mouth and used Tacoma's selling for 2-3k less than a brand new one was all considered as well. I would not have done that with any other brand.

I can see why if a reviewer has never owned one long term It's easy to see why they don't understand the cult.

I think there's been a lot of hate towards the Tacoma in the mid size truck world because it's not as much better than the competitors than it had been previously (3rd gen specifically).

For a little bit there it was the ONLY mid size truck as well. So yeah, it was going to be the best. Now though, the Colorado, frontier, and ranger are VERY capable trucks. The Tacoma is still capable but it isn't SO much more capable than the other trucks now and it's not that much more reliable either. I know it's anecdotal but my truck (47k miles) has been in the shop for over 60 days this year. Two of the three other Tacoma owners I know have had their trucks in the shop for weeks as well.

I still own my Tacoma though, and I won't go to the competitor. Why? Because I still think the Tacoma is better.... but I don't think it would take much for those tables to turn.

A gen 2, maybe. I had a gen 1 and sold when i bought the gen 3. Personally the gen1 was nice and basic, but the back of my mind was waiting for it to break down or fail in the middle of a trip and it never did. Great cars, think the mpg was similar with a 4 speed auto, but it was so damn basic, and on long drives with no cruise or modern amenities it was exhausting.

Well if your on the fence about Toyota, just look @ some of the 3rd world army's that basically consist of a 50 caliber bolted on a Toyota! I think that guy that writes them reviews should go write one fighting in the desert on a competitor truck, if he lives long enough to go to print!. Lol

Articles are meant to attract eyeballs to sell advertising. They serve that purpose primarily. An article trashing the most popular choice will attract more eyeballs than one agreeing with what everybody already knows to be true.

Based on all the shit I read about it, I should not have bought my 2017, or should sold it for something else by now. Turns out it’s one of the best investments I’ve ever made, both in life-dividends (good times and memories), lack of problems and break-downs, and holding its value.

The problem is I don’t write articles for spam sites or host episodes on TFL.

Initial purchase price+repairs+resale value=overall cost off ownership. This a metric that most car reviewers ignore, yet for many consumers this is the most important metric and one where the Tacoma is the clear industry leader and therefore industry sales leader in the mid sized truck category.

I guess opinions vary. This 2020 of mine is every bit as good or better so far than any toyota truck owned since 1978. Everyone forgets how fast their bodies rusted through in the 70's and 80's....and even the 90's.

Odd how some owners are happy while others are bitching. Could be mods fooking up the electronics? Or lifts messing up the suspension? Lack of or improper maintenance? Maybe simply just the luck of the draw? My stock 2020 has to date performed like a champ.

    :fingerscrossed:
