As a nearly lifetime Ford owner / supporter I think you'd be nuckin futz to buy that or just about anything from Ford aside from an F250 or bigger.

That Ecoboost turbo shit is just that. Shit.

Now, if you have the coin to burn thru on a new rig every couple-a-few years, knock yourself out but I still would wait a couple years on that Maverick. Ford is notorious for releasing shit cars and engines and letting customers eat the expense of guinea pigging their POS.

If I were considering buying the first generation of a brand new vehicle I would take a deep breath and wait until the next model year or two before buying one. Every new model will still have bugs to work out, some minor and unfortunately sometimes major. You know what you have now. No one has any idea of what you are buying-yet.

It does appear to be a promising affordable truck however!

I've been driving mine for 12 years as of this post, so I've gotten used to it; Also, I want a truck that's actually a truck! Now, the last generation Nissan Frontier has a really stiff ride compared to the 2nd Gen Taco, and I would never buy one; However, everything is relative. I care more about having a vehicle that's not going to rattle itself to pieces on the shitty roads of Pennsylvania than having a smooth ride!

I would not mind anything with a PowerStroke, but when I detailed cars at a dealership I drove plenty of full-size heavy-duty pickups and I would not want one for a daily driver; The Ford Super Duties are very well-built and reliable, but they have the turning radius of an aircraft carrier; One thing I love about my Tacoma is that it is very nimble in tight spaces for what it is!

All those small turbocharged engines are shit; Ford put a 3-cylinder Ecoboost turbo in the EcoSport "SUV", but thankfully only in the front-wheel drive version; Yes, they get better gas mileage and have very respectable horsepower ratings, but in my opinion the small-displacement turbo 4-bangers (and 3-bangers) are overworked and end up wearing out quicker...

I’d wait until at least 3 years before I bought one.
Would I drive one? Yes, because it probably gets better MPG than my truck.
And I don’t always need my truck, unless I’m towing or need 4WD.

Would I sell my truck, and buy a Maverick? No.

I did something crazy; I bought an entire row of seats at the theater so my friends, who are celebrating a birthday on the same exact date (both were born on December 29th, 1988), and I can have entire row to ourselves when we see the new Spider-Man movie tomorrow! Also, my parents are much more worrisome about COVID than I am, so this appeased them!

In addition to Doug and Mike, this girl Anna I met back in November is also coming with me; Should be a good time!

If you like it, why not? The drivetrain is based on the Escape/Bronco Sport. Nothing particularly new about that. It has all the modern safety features, considerably better gas mileage, lots of creature comforts and the FWD will be may more capable in the snow.

    I say do it.

if you enjoy spending time waiting for road side assistance then by all means buy a Ford..The only thing worse than their vehicles is their service department.

"FWD" and "truck" don't belong in the same sentence though...

I've been researching the Maverick extensively, and $20K is for a base FWD with none of the safety features that are making me consider a new vehicle, including the blind spot monitors.

You're the one who brought up buying a Maverick. Did you not realize it was unibody and FWD?

And no one here on TW would admit that the Ridgeline would be fine for 95% of the folks around here....and many of them are FWD only.

Low $20s gets you the features you're looking for. It's really a good value. Compare it to the Santa Cruze pricing. You can top $40k on one of those, easily.

The Ridgeline is nice. Sad with no frame has more payload than a Taco.

Yeah....the idea that a light duty truck has to have a frame to be a "truck" or be RWD to be a "truck" is dated thinking. Properly engineered unibodies are very strong. And for everyday use, FWD is a better setup anyway.

My friend has a 2017 Ridgeline and he loves it; Problem is he leased it new then bought it in cash when the lease was up, and he has less than 40K miles, but he bought it before this hyperinflation and paid like $24K? Thompson Toyota has a 2017 Ridgeline on the lot, but it has almost 90K and they're asking like $30K!

Yes Bill, I was briefly considering buying a Maverick, but I am also saving up for a house and I really don't want payments. I cannot afford to pay cash for a brand new vehicle right now.

Also, I have long had an intense hatred for the way dealerships do business, and in this hyperinflated economy dealers have really blurred the line between trying to make money and just being greedy bastards.

    @Plain Jane Taco

I am not ashamed to admit that I do like the Maverick, but I would have to drive one before I ever considered buying one; Also, the unibody construction does not bother me in the slightest. However, if I were to sell my Tacoma the one thing I would do differently with its replacement is get something with 4WD/AWD.

I would buy the hybrid version for the sole purpose of getting better gas mileage and saving money, but the hybrid is not available with AWD and that is a feature I really want.

I would actually consider a Ridgeline if I could afford it...
