They should have waited for the new frame to arrive before starting disassembly. Now they have a pile of parts laying there and the guy who did the work 5 months ago probably doesn’t remember how it all came apart. I would trade it in the day I got it back.

Difficult to believe the value of a 2006 is $15-20K. How about this common insurance scam; the insurance adjuster writes the repair estimate using OEM replacement parts. The estimate usually goes over the vehicle value so they knock off enough to get it under. The repair shop uses cheap and used parts for repair at a fraction of OEM parts. The insurance adjuster gets a kickback, shoddy repairs may not show for months or years.

Suggest to contact your insurance to inform them of the situation.

Perhaps they could apply a lever or motivation to the shop.

Has the shop been paid for the work??

I'd like to know what insurance company would approve a frame replacement on a 2006 Tacoma ( ~15 years old ).

    That is insane.

Why would you agree to pay for the rental out of pocket. Good luck getting that back.

I believe you will have zero problems getting that money back. They are aware of how long the body shop has had your truck. Now the issue of a frame replacement is totally different but as far as the rental reimbursement, I wouldn't worry about it for a second.

I honestly think the collision place is going to do a great job. They are a solid shop and I trust them. I will definitely keep an eye out for any issues tho

in the factory there is a coordinated dance of

parts + systems when & how they are installed

switching from 1 frame to another is like building a whole new truck

the guy or guys that took it apart better to be the guys that switch it out

or anyone else would be lost scratching their plums in total confusion

You must be a very trusting soul.

I have seen too many get screwed over things like the rental car.

Why would they require you to pay first and then "promise" to reimburse you?

100% agree. Sounds a bit too much like other lies I've heard. (Like, "My that's a beautiful baby.") I really hope it works out for the OP.

that´s their policy, I tried to argue with them but I can´t do anything about it except hope they reimburse me

Make them show it to you in writing that they’re responsible for the rental in its entirety.

I just believe insurance companies have too much on the line to argue with somebody over that, but we'll see if I'm wrong.

Insurance companies have nothing on the line. They have your money and no legal requirements to honor a civil contract. You HAVE to trust them.

For those interested this is the damage that warranted a frame swap
