Ditto. The huge cost for the conversion in the first place is because Diesel Toys has to find a low mileage wrecked donor car from Australia or something and then ship it over to the US. The OP has everything already in the truck and the conversion is complete, so if there is a problem then it's really just a part swap out assuming the motor is fine.

Every third or so start the tach will jump around but the motor still idles smooth. Could be a sensor who knows….starting to gather info from the Hilux forums.

 

That thing sounds so RIGHT.. too bad it wasn't the norm for Tacomas in the US.

Diesel is actually cheaper than gas around here right now. A cool find and hope you can figure out the gremlin easy enough to make er run right.

I recently bought my 14 with just over 33,000 miles. But I sure didn't get the deal that you did on the price. I had to pay for what I wanted, BUT I got what I wanted....

Have you had a chance to see what the fuel economy you get? I would be very much interested in knowing some actual numbers.

 

No sir...I tried to drive it to the gas station this morning for shits and grins. Kinda painful staring at it in the driveway. Ran flawlessly there but went into limp mode on the way home after stopping at a stop sign. Pulled over, restarted the engine and I was good all the way home.
Checked for disconnected wiring/hoses, chaffing yesterday and I did not see anything notable. I will say that it is a very clean/organized install by DieselToys.

We have an appointment Monday morning to get it checked out.

 

Has it been deleted or is the EGR still on?

I have seen diesel be $2 with gas $4, which is one of the whole points of diesel
yet CA somehow has managed to fuck that up making diesel currently more than gas right now.
Kind of like how they add a $1per/gal state gas tax; might be something similar with diesel

Guy at Autozone looking for a locking gas cap told me his got stolen/siphoned.

I bought my Taco from a used car lot where they knew Toyotas well and picked only good examples. So far it has not let me down.

Meanwhile the dealer had some idiot trying to sell me a beat up 2wd 4th gen runner
when they had a Taco it wasn't a great deal
and came in shittier spec further away

I would think older engines from the rest of the world don't have that type of crap on them, nor would a converter put in additional effort into installing systems onto a truck that make it worse

 

So I couldn’t even get it scanned for any trouble codes. "Unable to connect". Looks like the wiring harness used for the conversion might cause me problems.

Looks like I will have to let it sit and then get in touch with DieselToys to see if they will give it a once over. Luckily they are supposed to be located about 45 mins.

Haha...I'm just going to cross my fingers for a little while and see how it plays out.

The whole reason this even got purchased was because my GF and kids got hit the day after Christmas.
Asshole drove off after he rear ended them and left them stranded outside Austin, with injuries non the less.
Good news is it was all captured on Dashcam and someone ran him down to get the license plate.
