    Howdy folks,

Any remedy for a pesky oil filter housing cap that just spins when you put the 3/8” extension into it to spin it out?

Small impact gun, like a dewalt 1/4 always gets them off.

Honestly you can just leave it, crack the housing loose and let it drain, then remove.

Tried the impact with no luck. Went the route of just removing the whole housing. Made a mess, but is what it is.

Was it just over-torqued by the guy who did the last oil change?

Yea, most techs are terrified of leaks so they always tighten too much.

I never use the cap unless there's an aftermarket skid plate. It's messy but faster.

Probably cross threaded will it leak if started briefly. Look for a new housing. Might have to be broken up to get off . Let's hope no damage to the threads on the engine. Or cracked off leaving the housing threads on the engine. May need to get it in the air.
