I'm strongly considering going up tomorrow. I'd like to get at least one other person to come with.

    Is anyone interested?

I would, but I think it's a little much for 2wd since we got so much snow/rain.
I was thinking about doing cleghorn tomorrow.

I don't know shit about offroading in the snow. Chains needed?

I have cooper discoverer at3 xlt tires. Online I see good feedback about snow, at least for all season, but I don't know if that applies to offroad and snow.

Haha for sure, definitely want to make sure you're set up for success.

My plan would be to get going pretty early, beat any traffic up the 330/18, and get on Holcomb Valley trail from Green Valley area, drive that across and then either head north on Coxey, or continue across until it hits the 18 on the east side, and then come down into Apple Valley, and head home. This would avoid all the traffic and crowds in the Big Bear area.

I think there shouldn't be much traffic going up, everyone is either already up there, or will be hungover/sleeping in.

My wife's thinking about coming too actually, with our daughter. Will be a tight fit lol. We're still thinking on it, but would it be better to start at Coxey and go up into Big Bear to avoid the highway altogether?

The one time we went up to Green Valley on New Years day with my Father in law we sat in traffic for hours on the 330 just getting to that exit for Green Valley, and that was around 8am when we got on the highway. Was a few years ago. Definitely don't want a repeat of that experience haha.

Would you be up for taking Coxey Rd up and then maybe Holcomb Valley to Green Valley/330 back down? Going down from there in the midday wouldn't be so bad I imagine. Or if it is we could always just take Coxey back down

Yeah the highway is going to be really bad I think unless you go up when it's nighttime or something. Everyone's gonna want to get an early start on their skiing/snowboarding and stuff, with the same idea of trying to beat traffic. I think avoiding pavement altogether would be ideal

Yea that works too, my concern was more about traffic coming down than going up. I figured with new years day, there wouldn't be many people driving that early. But I'm honestly down for whatever.

Honestly, i think the best bet is to hit cleghorn and the pilot rock after that, but trying to go up to the big bear/arrowhead just sounds bad. No gas, tons of people... = not a good time

Was a beautiful day in Big Bear. Took Coxey in and back. Much better than taking the highway. It was packed in town of course, but the trail wasn't busy at all.
