Yet another one from today's multi-dealership adventure; I saw this 2013 Tundra DoubleCab at Sloane Toyota in Glenside, Pennsylvania...

It's a cool looking truck, definitely not bad looking; However, even in today's hyperinflated used car market it seems like a bit of a ripoff...

For starters, it's a 4.6L and not a 5.7L; Second of all, it has almost 115K miles!

That appears to have been repainted at some point, the back door looks like a different shade.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what trim level this thing is; It has foglights and variable intermittent wipers, but it has the smaller V8 and despite seeming to at least have the SR5 trim and being newer than 2008 does not have a backup camera...

Also, note that the left rear tire is low, but it has current inspection stickers so I'm assuming it's still on the road...

Some TW members may remember that in September 2018, Thompson Toyota diagnosed the issue with the A/C in my truck as a leaky evaporator core; I did not have the money to pay for its replacement at the time, and my dad said he'd pay for it since it wasn't something that was my fault, but encouraged me to comparison shop at different dealers before committing to getting it done at Thompson; Yes, we overpaid, but I had just started a new job and my mechanic charged less but obviously didn't have the ability to give me loaner car and it would have taken him longer to do the job than the dealer...

Anyway, I called Sloane on a Sunday and left a voicemail, being very specific that I wanted a quote for installing a new evaporator core in my 2010 Tacoma; On Monday, I got a call from their sales department asking me to come in to see if we could make a deal on a new Toyota...

Seriously?!?! I never told them the mileage or other specifics of my truck, other than it was a 2010, but my truck had less than 90K miles on it that the time; Tacomas always have been and and always will be a hot commodity, so I guarantee you they wanted to buy my truck at trade-in value, fix the the A/C, and then put it on the lot for like $10K-$12K...

    I never called them back.

My response any dealership inquiring about my truck used to be, “They don’t call me “Even Trade” for no reason.”

Oddly enough, I haven’t gotten a letter in the mail about it being in high demand, or them wanting to buying my truck. Maybe it’s too old? Or has too many miles?

    Updates to come...
you know - between the hyperinflation - a hotter than hot market for all (new and used) - it's the "aggressive" sales tactics and just the recent handling of pre-orders that is going to kill the dealer model (preorders where they dealer then marks up the price due to "market demand" - there's a lot of back and forth on whether they setup the preorder contracts correctly, etc. it seems - regardless the negative press is not good).

It's funny cause pretty much nowhere else do you find the "walmart" approach to vehicles (at least new) - rather they have showrooms with floor models, and you order what you want. Used cars are different, but they're more personally ran (at least what I've seen in my limited international travelings).

As well - to me the push of much more remodeling/refreshes has hurt the industry here. People don't "own" vehicles anymore - they either right out lease them or "pretend" to buy. I've had my fair share of that game, and am tired of it. Hopefully this push back gets people to owning again. M2C

At a cruise night I believe in the summer of 2020, I met a man who's ex-wife bought a ordered a brand new 2020 C8 Corvette from a dealer in Florida; Despite the divorce, they were on on good enough terms that she let him drive her Corvette to cruise nights.

It was beautiful car too, dark metallic red with a saddle colored interior; So, the car comes in and the dealer tries to sell it out from under this woman for well above sticker price...

This woman got her lawyer involved, and the dealer not only had to sell her the Corvette at the original agreed-upon price (I think it was exactly MSRP), but they had to pay her legal fees too; I guarantee you that dealer never pulled that shit again!
