The normal throttle just feels, “normal”. After the tune is settled you just get in and drive, like normal.

I guess my point was that the 2nd gen throttle response could be considered "normal" because it was factory condition. After driving the 3rd gen for 6 weeks, I got used to the 3rd gen "weak" throttle. Then getting back into the 2nd gen, it was like a rocket ship, but still "normal".

I want to kdmax pro my new 3rd gen, but don't want to go too crazy with the throttle. I drive in the snow on a regular basis.

It sounds like the kdmax pro tune does away with the "wow" kickdown on the highway, so the throttle response maybe isn't too much of an issue?

Yes, I would go with the Normal Throttle in your situation. Should be what you’re looking for.
Just make sure you do a test drive after the tune and change if needed.

The Pro normal throttle is sure not weak. Bogging, lugging that sort of thing is gone and you’ll sense a more “torquey” feel in 1-4. Likely much the same feel as your 2g.

I am currently running a Sprint booster set to the top of the sport settings. Throttle response is now acceptable, but looking to gain some torque in the lower rpm range on the highway. I feel like I shouldn't have to be in S4 to tow my trailer at 75mph. If not truck just constantly jumps from 5th to 4th with the slightest incline. Hoping a tune will solve this a little.

It feels like the whole world is uphill currently. Like the stories my dad used to tell about walking to school.

I think using an OD gear to tow your trailer with consistency, depends a lot on the trailer weight and head/cross winds. I tow 3200# mostly flat land and have rarely been able to get it to hold 5th gear. Usually only happens with a tail wind. Although I’ve never tried doing it at 75mph. The tune can have a gear lock option which might help your requirements but you’ll still get TC unlocking when your speed starts to drop and you need more torque.

Gearlock could be a good option for me. Sometimes I use S mode to stop the "grunt" shakes that my truck gets when it's trying to run 5th at 40mph at 1000 rpm.

The tune does modify the Atkinson cycle to make a little more power down low as I understand it? Is that true? Changing the all or nothing feeling at 3500rpm?

The tune is set up so you don’t have it trying to lug in an OD gear at 1k rpm. Also it has a very linear feel on acceleration through 3500 rpm so that “all or nothing” feel is mostly gone. How @PapaRee does that is a trade secret. :anonymous:

Yes, that all or nothing feeling is gone.
Gearlock is an option, but you lose ECT since Gearlock is activated with ECT+SMode. Most people are happy without gearlock and use ECT, SMode, or ECT+SMode without any problems while towing.

Ok. Thank you for explaining. I guess I would opt for no gear lock and normal throttle options.

Are shift points adjustable at the time of the tune?

Got updated from 87 octane 6.0 to Pro Thursday morning and have put about 150 miles on it already. Went with Normal throttle since I was happy with SLT on the 6.0 tune. Overall impressions.

    - Throttle feels vary similar and linear.
    - I do feel the truck pulls stronger, obviously no HP or TQ data to support what the Mrs and I both feel.
    - shifting is very smooth still if not a touch smoother than on 6.0.

final improvement I have noticed is this. When we the fuel stations switched to winter oxygenated fuel I notes I was getting a little detonation up over 6k. Immediately after flashing to Pro I floored it at least 3 times from a stop and ran up through 3rd gear with zero detonation on the same tank of fuel. Based on what was posted I presume the tables have been expanded and thus probably why it’s running better.

very happy so far, no MPG improvements to share yet but my right foot is a bit heavy as part of helping it learn.

    Hello all,

I tried to reach out to my local tuner in MN, but have not heard anything back. Was trying to find out some more info. Thoughts on what I should go with and pricing. Does anyone know if there is a tuner in MN or close? Thanks much!

In post #1 of this thread there is a listing of KDMax Tuning Group, tuners. There is one in Minneapolis. Also, good information about the tunes.
