This is a new one for me, as it's never happened to me in more than ten years of wandering closed dealership lots solo; I'd also like to say before I continue that this was not a negative encounter with the police and it ended well...

The dealer in question Chapman Ford on Route 611 in Horsham, Pennsylvania; I have been going to this particular dealership on and off since 2012 or so, and wandering the lot with no issues...

Here in Pennsylvania, due to some old blue law, car dealers are prohibited from being open on Sunday; Most dealer properties are pretty much open, and you can drive around the property in your vehicle looking at their inventory. Chapman blocks all access to the main dealership property, but there is a bargain lot next door where I usually park my truck.

As some people on TW know, I have been very lightly considering selling my Taco and buying a 2022 Maverick; This is likely not going to happen, but I still wanted to look at one, and possibly come back to test drive one at a later date.

I was driving back from a failed attempt to locate a 2022 Tundra that Sloane Toyota had in stock, and I saw a beige base model Maverick on the lot; I could tell it was a base model by the steel wheels...

Anyway, my plan was to park on the shoulder, snap a few pics of this Maverick, and leave...

When I parked the truck on the shoulder , I noticed a couple police SUVs and like three cops on the bargain lot property where I normally parked...

One cop immediately started walking towards me, and I explained that I just wanted to look at the new Maverick; I couldn't hear him over the traffic whizzing by, and at first I thought he was telling me I couldn't park my truck on the shoulder...

I asked if I should park on the bargain lot, and he told me that when the dealer was closed nobody was allowed on the property; Oops...

    :sorry:

I didn't go onto the property this time around, but I have parking my truck off-property and hopping the gate to wander this dealership since 2012...

I told the cop that I'd been coming to this dealer for like ten years and this policy was news to me, but then I said it was no problem and I'd just go see if Fred Beans (a Ford dealer about 12 miles away in Doylestown) had any Mavericks in stock.

I was about to get back in my truck and drive to Fred Beans when the cop explained that this dealer (Chapman) had prior issues with people coming onto the property outside of business hours, and though he didn't go into detail I assume it was either theft or vandalism, and that as a result they didn't allow people on the property when they were closed...

He also said that he and his colleagues were "conducting some police work" in that area (again without going into detail) and that they basically they couldn't have civilians in the area; Again, no problem...

I apologized for the misunderstanding, thanked him for his service, made a comment about how it was crazy that I had my windows down in January, and left...

So, after my first attempt to get a close look at a new Maverick at one dealership was thwarted by the Horsham Township Police, I drove about 12 miles to another dealership; This worked out for the best because Chapman had a base XL while Fred Beans had an XLT! Here it is...

It really is not a bad looking vehicle, but trading a Toyota for a Ford sounds like a downgrade to me, and I really don't want to buy a new vehicle at today's hyperinflated prices...

I actually like the look of the interior, but I don't like those rotary dial electronic gear selectors...

Not what I pictured in my mind. I imagined some sort of retro slant 6 model crossed with something with a truck bed.

Ford did something similar when they we’re going to lose the cobra name for not using if for x amount of years.

You do whatever you want. Buy one if you like. Then, after a few months of ownership, check back in with us.

To be honest, I was lured in by the low base price, but that little voice in my head is saying "you'd be crazy to sell your truck"...

I was reading through this thread and found this about the Maverick. If this is true, I would stay far far away. Wrong wheel drive uni-body....

"The Maverick is based on a front-wheel drive-based unibody platform shared with the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport, and offered with a hybrid powertrain as standard and a conventional turbo engine as an option. It went on sale in late 2021 for the 2022 model year."

If it were based on the REAL new Bronco, or the Ranger, I'd be all for it!
