When I was kid (around 15 yo) worked summers at a garage gas station. So we had a customer that was a part-time car dealer. He had had some connection to Memphis car dealers. He was kind of wheeler-dealer in anything from a used Rolex watch to guns or whatever. He came about this pink Jeep that must have been a replica of an Elvis Jeep. So he left it at the garage in Little Rock for a month while he was trying to sell it. I think the ad said to go see it at the garage location parking lot.

My job was to pull the Jeep in and out of the garage each day or if it started raining while it was for sale. I wasn't old enough to drive on the street, but I could pull it across a large parking lot. I couldn't stand being seen in that damn Jeep.

That pink Jeep and the way it drove (lack of brakes) has been permanently cast in my mind. I have a hang-up about Jeeps. I know I have hangups about Jeeps. I don't want to get overmy hangups.

That is the only Jeep that I have driven in my life.

Man the part about the tires is so accurate

I can always hear a Rubicon/Willys coming because they have some loud-ass cupped factory mud terrains that have never been rotated on there

The old Bronco was the popular thing around here. Then it was FJ Toyotas. Jeeps were sold by niche dealers in off-the-beaten-path dealerships.

The dealerships being AMC had a hard time staying in business. It wasn't until Jeeps were sold at the mega Chrysler/Dodge dealerships did they become popular.

My stepmother's brother has a Jeep Safari edition or something like that, it's 5 or 6 years old and in showroom condition still. He likes to talk with me about off-roading when I see him but he scoffs at the idea of ever taking his Jeep out, he fully admits he bought it for the "Jeep thing" mentality but is too afraid to scratch it. Its kind of funny but I guess at least he owns up to it.

I just don't get why you'd spend that money on a Wrangler just to use it as a commuter...they aren't comfortable at all. I guess that's why its a Jeep thing that I wouldn't understand.

I pulled up next to this 200 series at the gas station in Silverton last summer.

My 100 series looks like a baby next to this bad boy.

The thing is you can cruise across the country at 90+ MPH and arrive without fatigue or go get into whatever off-road you can come up with.

I see guys with rigs built from dozens of crazy expensive RCI components that turn pale if you try to get them to go off-road.

It’s the torn up flag decals I see everywhere that bug me. So much for the Flag Code.

I wonder how many people actually learn flag etiquette anymore. It's still taught in the Boy Scouts (or at least was 20 years ago), I assume it's hammered pretty hard in the military... but where else?

I chewed a customer out in the service department back at the dealership; he had an american flag mask (you know, COVID rules) and it was upside down on his face.

Told him to take it off, as that's disgraceful to our flag. To not be able to put it on right even...but just wearing it in general bugged me to shit.
