Boy Scouts is where I learned it. Doubt it’s even communicated anywhere else other than the Military.

You’re not as bad as my friend. He’d borrow my truck to bring home pallets to cut up and burn as firewood.

Yeah you mean like, when to fly it half mast?

Or when to take it up or down.

Or how the stars always face towards the direction of travel.

    All of that.

And also not letting it touch the ground, not making clothes out of it, and (for extra credit) how to fold it.

That and other things, where to display it on a stage, how it should be in relation to other flags, etc.

I can’t quote it word for word, but I know enough to go look it up or when I see something that’s not right.

god thinking about pallet fires made me remember the last one I went to in HS. someone got shot in the arm after I left and they ended up driving to walmart and bandaging themself in the bathroom

that crew laughed about it for months.

    pretty fucked up in retrospect

I just went back and re-read the original text. Could be a fun (or depressing) game to see how many offenses you see in a day.

    https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/4/8

@Kwikvette the orientation on a vehicle isn't actually part of the code. I think that's just military tradition.

Learning the flag codes in Boy Scouts was cool when I learned it long ago. We snickered about using some signs at the time that were considered counterculture outside of the group. We were somewhat subversive in those days and looked for ways to put hidden meanings in stuff.

The hand numbers are used in trail etiquette to let passing rigs know the position in the group. If you know the codes.

Some Jeepers waive number 2 thinking the victory wave is trail communication.

Direction of travel not only being applicable to vehicles, but on clothing as well.

On your arm for instance; whatever side you have the flag on, the stars always point forward.

    It's metamorphic; always progressing.

This version of the #3 reminds me of the scene from Inglorious Basterds when the American officer does it the American way and blows their cover

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PX_g8I1JYg4

Only Tarantino can create dialogue so intense that a shootout/gunfight actually breaks tension in a scene rather than creating more of it lol
