I've been using a Kickr Core in my gain-cave the last few years. That's a bit more than "basic" though.

    Thanks, fellas!

Im doing some research online as well. Mostly just trying to see what is compatible with MTB tires/dropouts, etc. Definitely some amazing options that I’m seeing so far.

You may need to buy an adapter but most fluid trainers will work, somehow, with a mountain bike. You'll need a trainer tire or an old slick. A knobby tire on a trainer will be a bad time.

I may be wrong but I think if you want a direct drive trainer (wheel off) you'll have to step up to a smart trainer. I don't know of any basic direct drive trainers.

    Yep, that’s what I’m seeing.

    I appreciate the feedback!

I’ve used the cyclops/saris fluid 2 for a while. Just switched to the wahoo kickr core. Tbh a smart trainer is so worth it if you are using it regularly, especially with a thru axle.

So last year a few of my friends gained some weight, and we decided to have a mileage goal. We were supposed to ride 1,000 miles, which is a very minor goal. My number ended up being 2,000 miles after I passed the terminus mid year.

I did it mostly on my 26” full squish mtb and then finished on an old road bike. Good times were had.

Just finished planning out three weeks of vacation. Heading out west for two weeks of road and mountain biking in Alberta and Vancouver Island. Then heading down to the Midwest for some gravel ending with Unbound 200. Can't wait for summer! Damn this winter.

It shuts us down haha. So many wrecks and road closures today. We have 0 equipment or resources to handle snow. So the 1-4 days a year or so even if just a slight dusting…the whole state basically shuts down and sometimes goes into a state of emergency

I remember when Georgia got a light dusting and shut down a few years ago. And all of us in the northern states just laughed at them as we drove to work after a 2" dump... lol

Which model is it, how much ya want, and how well does it work with Zwift? I have an older 1x10 CX bike that I really want to throw on a smart trainer, but can't bring myself to spend crazy $ on the idea.
