Dang... they look sharp after 29k. I'm starting to think the 4runners pull off the BFG white letters best

 

I was surprised they held up that well. Lots of trails, some rocks, probably a curb check or 2. The treadwear was great as well!

FWIW, I went 60,000 miles on a set of KO1s and 35,000 miles on KO2s on my last vehicle. I put the white letters out on both sets, and the letters always looked good as new. Once in a while they'd start to look grubby so I'd spend two extra minutes scrubbing them the next time I washed it - no special products, just soapy water and a hard brush.

 

Not really. If folks are using ATs / MTs for the intended purpose, it's gonna happen also. As a tire ages, the underlayer will show through as gray. It's more than just one issue.


Beyond that and IMHO, brushing a curb is good parking. I shouldn't need to take a stroll from the door to the sidewalk. If it is a car with wheels that contact before the tires, then that is a very different convo.

Maybe older tire tech?
I’ve beat the hell out of countless amounts of ATs (BFGs and Generals only to be fair) on pipeline/survey trucks and have never once had the underlay come through - although maybe I burnt through the thread/usability too early for that happen? - usually got around 70k kms out of sets (or 2.5yrs +/-), no underlays.
If I knew the underlay was gonna be showing within a certain amount of time, I wouldn’t have the lettering out on my own truck.

Beat up lettering also looks good in my opinion - not dirty or yellowed, but beat up and clean. To each their own.

 

Actually I need a couple of those, I scratched up my side flares and tore off the corner of my rear bumper yesterday on a trail! Shopping for a new end cap and mount today. Had my letters not been in, they would’ve been gone too.

 

SOS Pad scrubber keeps them looking new. I'd suggest rolling them up next to your truck to help you decide. I've run tires both ways on white trucks, it's a whatever thing.

 

When I was a little kid in the early 80s I thought white lettered tires were cool "racing tires".....

Kinda depends on the wheels and color of vehicle IMO
