You'll need a jumper to, fit and finish is the same.

I know it’s an older thread but if anyone is looking, I’d be willing to sell my 2020 jbl headunit with CarPlay.

Why waste your money on a oem radio. Just get a aftermarket one .with the steering wheel control adapter .i have the oem one with Apple CarPlay it’s better than the old head units but definitely not better than a aftermarket one .

If I replaced the head unit with an aftermarket head unit, will I still have all the tacoma specific controls? On my 2018, there's a lot of places I can control the car's behavior. EG: when I hit the unlock button does it open all doors or just the drivers. Will other head units allow me to adjust that?

You will need an aftermarket radio that is Maestro capable and maestro unit and harness from idatalink, that retains all the controls.

Unless things have changed in the past couple years and 3rd party manufacturers have found a way to build all that in now, you'll want some adapters to go along with the radio replacement if you want to maintain OEM controls and such. I think they go over it in this thread some that maybe could help. The big one that helps keep OEM stuff working is the Maestro, but it looks like there could be others you need to consider as well. Crutchfield is a great resource too. There's a lot of info there and you might even be able to contact them to help out if you can't figure it out.
