Quick question/feedback from those more knowledgeable than myself.

I've found a potential frame/chassis in Alabama that I'm considering buying to replace mine, which would require me to have it shipped to NY.

How many of you have experience with shipping a chassis/frame?

Is it possible to ship the entire chassis (w/ wheels & suspension) via freight or would that need to be shipped the same as having an entire truck shipped?

Also, any insight/info re: freight companies or auto shippers that are better than others is appreciated.

Seems like a freight shipper is your most likely option. Don't know how they would handle a rolling chassis.

I used a freight shipper to transport my motorcycle from North Carolina to Iowa. But the bike was a complete unit. The shipper put the bike on a dedicated motorcycle pallet fully secured with ratchet straps.

You could ask the seller for suggestions. Make a few phone calls.

I would suggest to spend a couple extra $$ for shipping insurance. Ya know how sh1t happens............

Were the real fun starts is getting it loaded and unloaded do you and the shipper have easy access to a overhead crane or Fork Lift ?/

The rolling Chassis is located where a 48' foot trailer has access the same where it gets unloaded

Next how much are you willing to pay or can afford to pay LTL flatbed freight would be your best option .

Have any friends with a trailer willing to have an adventure ??

When you say NY that takes in quite of an Area Buffalo to Montauk !!

You have some thinking to do.

Search point to point cities LTL Flatbed freight should give you some options.

anything east of the Hudson river in the area of the city can carry a penalty or carriers refuse to even go there because of the bridge tolls

I wish I could go down and pick it up. If I had access to a truck/trailer I'd already be on the way there.

Loading and unloading shouldn't be an issue on either end. Cost and ease of logistics is really going to be the deciding factor. I'm in the Rochester area so no concerns for NYC.

I bought a 01 Prerunner DC with a bad motor in Texas, actually from the middle of a field in Texas and had it shipped to San Diego, apx $1100. That one sentence I just wrote was the easiest part of that debacle. The whole automobile shipping industry is suspect. When you “contract” with a shipper you dont really contract with a shipper, you contract with a broker who tries to sell your job to a shipper. The contract fee is non refundable and the shipper will only accept cash when they arrive with your item. There were at least 3 shippers that took the job then when they realized that they had to winch the truck onto the hauler they just left, didnt say anything, they just left. All of the issues with the truck being disabled and needing to be winched out of where it broke and onto the trailer were disclosed beforehand. It took longer to get the truck here than to put a motor in her and fix all the other things wrong with her.

Vehicle Haulers for the most will pass that type of freight !!

A royal pain to work around .It would take enough luck to win Powerball to not need to load and unload it several times.

    Up for an odd-ball thought.......

Would the rolling chassis fit in a POD?

Ain’t no cheap way to do it. Almost all haulers won’t touch it unless it rolls (and even then they usually won’t.) Uhaul is an optionZ but be ready for ~2k in rental fees. Freight is a bitch. Best bet is find a free lance dude willing to haul cars

I agree, this is the best bet. Find a small operator who is looking for work.

You need to find a trailer in Alabama that needs to come home close to Rochester NY

I don`t know anyone that would take a trip like that without having freight returning unless the outbound fright paid well enough to make it worth while.

How do you define a small operator 10 or less trucks??

    Best of Luck Op
