2022 TRD Off road - Manual or Automatic???

Definitely get the manual. There are only two trucks left in the U.S. that are still available with a manual, the Taco and the Gladiator. You can have one of the last of a dying breed. In a few more years it will be virtually theft-proof. Be sure to bring up the fact that you drive a manual in every conversation and in every post.

I have a 22 in MT. I got lucky color wise, and actually finding a MT. I got the color I wanted, it was pure luck. However, I know a few others who can’t find a 22 in manual anywhere. So if one comes available, and you want a MT and can live with color, put down a deposit. If not, someone else will.

 

That is what I did. Thankfully, BR was pretty likeable in person.

 

It has to go in your vehicle description line. Like where you are from when you work at six flags.

 

The DCLB was Way more important to me than any version with a manual transmission.

 

That's the game that we play until we can afford coachbuilt Tacos.

Or get a damaged manual and do one hell of a swap.

 

That would be a fun project going in that would end up in a dumpster fire as soon as the electrics start getting put in. I'd rather build a trail rig or project car than mess with MT to AT or vice versa swaps these days.

 

Manual. I wouldn't be driving a tacoma if it didn't come with a stick. It's worth the wait and manuals are a dying breed so you should enjoy it while you can.

 

Auto, its the 21st century. Unless you're buying a sports car there's really no reason to get a manual.

 

ICE automobiles are a 19th century technology. Sure they've gussied them up a bit since then, but not in any technologically groundbreaking ways.

OP: get the manual, get off this site, and just drive it. You will be happier that way. To address your two points, when have you ever seen crawl control used in anything other than a demo, and hill start assist isn't necessary because the parking brake is a hand-operated lever, not a pedal, so you can just use that in dire straits.

 

My biased vote is for manual. I'm on my third manual Tacoma, one from each gen. Never a regreat and each time I had to wait longer for the truck I wanted. For my 3rd gen it was over 5 months.

 

I'll drive an automatic when it's also an EV and there is no choice.
It's even more delicious when people who can't drive a stick poopoo them as old tech.

 

I had '18 MT and now have a '20 AT. Pros and Cons to both...
Biggest benefit of the MT is that it's fun to drive around town.
Biggest benefits of the AT are push button start and smart-key door handles. For me, those are a big deal. I'm often carrying things out of work and don't want to dig for a key. Remote start is also much easier on the AT. I did have it on my MT, but you have to put it in ready-mode if you want it to be able to remote start.

 

I guess it's "macho" or "cool" to drive a manual now? My first truck was an '83 Chevy short bed with a three-on-the-tree. Not many here even know what that is at this point. My last two Tacos were autos and my next one will be too. It seems like not long ago virtually every Taco was a 4cyl with a 5 speed stick. Back in the 80s-90s those were considered "girly" compared to the full-size with sticks.

I drive a manual and have for 51 years. “Macho”??? Feel so much safer carrying a heavy load down steep grades, especially in the mountainous region I live in. Not sure I understand why anyone who enjoys their manual or their automatic gives a rat’s ass what anyone else likes to drive. Get what suits you.
