They got my spare I stupidly left in there so I know they will be back for round two. Pushed it out of the driveway and started it in the street I’d guess. That’s why I want a kill switch. Don’t have anything worth stealing anymore in there so I’ll even leave a door unlocked so they don’t feel the need to break my window

I had my 83 Toyota 4x4 stolen from in front of my house in 1997. I woke up hearing the starter. Luckily the gas gauge was broken and showed dead empty. It got ditched I block later.
I moved the starter to one of the offroad light switches ( I had 3 switches in a row) . Had to put the key in & turn it on then hit the momentary switch to start the engine.
This was when you could open a Toyota truck door with a carefully placed pencil under the door handle.

I believe I’m going to do a fuel pump switch and maybe a clutch start cancel switch as a second safety measure

The autolock that was posted above looks better. The cheap one I have and linked is a pain. Looks like you can lock it while seated while mine you have crouch down and its hard to get to.

Seemed useless IMHO. You can probably force the base of this locking gadget up or down and still be able to use the pedal. The base footprint is too small.

Hey guys so I wired my switch into the fuel pump relay on the control side. The diagrams have a hard time showing the color of wires but it is the solid blue one if anyone is curious
Or if anyone wants a write up I took pictures

I did a kill switch on my 4runner. I did the fuel pump, and wired it to a stock looking blank rocker switch next to the wheel. I'm not satisfied with the placement of the kill switch.

I've been toying with the idea of using a latching relay and wiring it into a stock switch. So the starting procedure will be 1. Turn key to acc position 2. turn on defrost to latch the relay that lets power flow to the fuel pump 3. now that the relay is latched, the secondary side (the side that is controlled by the relay) is self serving and wont become disconnected until power is cut from the fuel pump when the ignition is turned off

This sort of relay requires a bit more expertise, but it allows you to use an existing button without affecting its intended functionality and provides you with many more places to hide a switch in plain sight.

I actually thought about wiring it into my climate control to where I turn the heater on but then I didn’t know how to turn it off. Then I gave a thought to wire it into my passenger airbag on/off switch but I couldn’t find a diagram for the control wire if there is one. Takes more knowledge then I have or I would’ve done that. I’d like to do a second one since my placement is you’ll either never find it or you’ll immediately find it

Ok. This might be complicated or not but they take the bed mat and steal it so thats one thing you got to think about.

Theft of a bed mat is an easier pill to swallow than theft of the truck.

In the early 80's I had a '73 Toyota truck with a 20R, 44MM side drafts, Web cam, thorley headers, and a 5 speed. Looked like crap. Just looked like a beat up construction truck 'cus it was. The only reason I was able to keep it was a well hidden fuel pump kill switch. I would find it a quarter block away from my home several times a year. Eventually I wired up a switch under the dash to a big siren that looked like the kill switch. Nobody tried to steal it after I installed that. Was kind of bummed.

Is there anyway to see if 13 year old LoJack still active without having to pay a shop $80? LoJack as a maker may have folded, but a signal would still locate when used by law enforcement.

Tune a radio to 173.075 MHz and see if you hear anything when you get close to the car.
