Could my fuel pump regulator be the culprit?

Hey @waydwnsouth , did you ever get this no-start issue figured out? I seem to have a real similar issue... Drove my truck down a pretty bumpy dirt road, drove the few minutes home and parked it, came out a few hours later and have crank, but no-start. Digging in with Techstream, seems to be electrical, but I am not an engine troubelshooting wizard. Curious where yours ended up...

Thanks. I did. I checked every fuse and replaced all the relays. The truck starts and runs fine one day, but at random, it will crank and not start.
When it does that, i can spray starter fluid and it will run on that for a minute.
I even unplugged the fuel pump resistor and jumped the wires, that didn't make a difference.

Then, it will randomly start and run fine. When it starts, it runs fine.
I've been chasing wires looking for a damaged connection or something.
About to pull the bed off and look at the fuel pump.
    Truck is an 05 4.0 4x4 with 180k
Absolutely no obd2 codes at all. No gas in the oil, no other symptoms. I pulled the fuel line under the hood and it did squirt while cranking. But i haven't gotten a fuel pressure gauge yet.
I'm thinking that the factory filter in the tank is probably clogged. Seafoam and other cleaners haven't appeared to make a difference (i always put a cleaner once a month)

180k, I have a feeling that your fuel pump is about aged out.

    Should all wiring be good.

You said you had a squirt. That could be interpreted a few ways. However, a better check would be to disconnect the fuel line by the tank. Point it into a bucket, and have someone crank the engine to start. That fuel should come out with a good force. Simple man's test.

This is one reason why I wish OEM made it easier to have a gauge installed for testing. URDUSA.com does have an adapter that attaches between the fuel rail and the fuel pressure regulator, if you wanted one for keeps.

It certainly does seem like a fuel pump issue.. If you're gonna go through the effort to get to the old one, you should go ahead and upgrade the pump and convert to an external filter like w/ the kit URD offers. That's where i'd start at least

When it doesn't start do you have a flashing security light in the middle of the dash next to the clock?

It's not very common for a fuel pump to be intermittent, when they quit they usually stay broke.

Update, here is how intermittent the problem is. Truck left me stranded for a few days now, i decided to change the plugs (ngk iridium, only 50k and looked fine) and oil while I'm waiting for a fuel pump.

She starts as normal now, repeatedly.

I bet if i go somewhere without a backup plan, she won't start again.

I was thinking all the v6 2nd gens had an immobilizer weather they had keyless entry or not but I could be mistaken.
