There are so many assholes running illegal lighting options these days that I (and many others) don't even bother the give the high beam flash anymore...I'd be flashing the high beams constantly. The worst by far are Jeep Bros, second place goes to the welfare millionaires...the well used third or fourth hand BMW/Mercedes with wheels painted neon green and every cheap bolt on piece of shit they can find

Are you talking about Toyota? The company that for the Tacoma received a “Marginal” rating for the non-LED headlights in IHSS testing due to poor low beam performance?
    https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/toyota/tacoma-extended-cab-pickup/2021

Worst low beams of any vehicle I’ve owned, I upgraded my stock H11 low beam bulbs to GE (now Tungsram) Megalight Ultra +130 halogens and they are a noticeable improvement over the stock bulbs.

Yeah and when you do flash them, they are like 'you think those are bright check out my high beams!'

    Looks good from here. :bananadead:

All of my previous vehicles I have owned, I installed German Hella ECode glass headlights, dual relay’d headlight upgrade harness off the battery, and Hella 80/100w H4 bulbs. Then I spent the time to aim them correctly. I am so spoiled with those setups.
I will say that my Tacoma have the best stock light pattern, high and low beams, I have ever used. I just did the H9 bulb upgrades with @daveeasa connectors and am more impressed.

A single reference point has zero value. IIHS headlight ratings for a few vehicles

    Nissan Frontier: Poor
    Chevy Colorado: Poor
    Toyota 4Runner: Poor
    Lexus ES350: Marginal
    Ford Ranger: Marginal
    Honda Ridgeline: Marginal

Check out post #18 and watch that install video. It sounds like you may have the led's installed at the wrong angle? An easy fix if so, if not Ya have to take them out anyways.

My last truck was a Colorado, the low beams were better than my Tacomas with OEM bulbs.
IIHS testing is actual testing not just a “reference point”. You have to look at the charts and the write up not just the rating. I don’t think listing other vehicles with marginal and poor ratings helps your case of your “professional lighting engineer” working for the “largest manufacturer” evidence which truly does have zero value lol.
My first hand observations are my “reference point”. Tacoma halogen low beam projectors are not very good and IIHS testing proves it.
Look at the distance for the Colorado Low Beams (halogen):

Now look at the distance for the Tacoma halogen low beams, much less distance than the Colorado, especially on the straightaway where they were deemed “inadequate”:

    Carry on. ;)

    "bUt I'vE nEvEr BeEn FlAsHeD!"

probably cuz it's a waste of time. If only there was a thread related to the actual science behind why it's a terrible idea to mix these bulbs in these housings...
I've never bothered flashing high beams. In Montana it's the oldest crappiest vehicles with the blue lights that are not made for their vehicle. Should be a warning at local parts stores plastered all over a locked case so you have to ask for assistance to buy headlights.
Or we take the France approach...

Not being flashed has nothing to do with your replacement LEDs, it is because a 3rd Gen Tacoma uses a projector headlight which has an internal light shield that prevents stray glare, so it is the headlight assembly cleaning up the bad optics for you, not a well designed product that is working. What is huge is the increase in foreground light, and if you study human vision that is how people judge light output, is foreground light or light closest to them. That isn't what you want in a headlight, foreground light should be minimized and distance light should be improved. Which is why so many people get confused by these products; sees big increase in foreground light and says the difference is huge. When it is huge, it is huge in the wrong direction making an awful performing headlight that people think is good.

Maybe you should read the updated article from the same author where he explains he was wrong in that article and the products don't actually work, after consulting with a world leading automotive lighting expert rather than just using youtube research based on a non-reputable company trying to push the very products he's discussing. And you might note the links that expert recommends as a good example of why those products don't really work.

    So:

    1. You post the IIHS rating for the Tacoma and it's accurate, but my post of their ratings for for other vehicle's ratings is inaccurate.

    2. You owned a Colorado, which is a greater qualification than the entire engineering staff at Toyota

The only thing you have proven is you have an extremely high opinion of yourself

    lol.
    1. Never said that. I showed you the actual charts and evaluations for the Tacoma and Colorado.
    2. I just demonstrated in 1 above that the Tacoma has worse low beam halogens than the Colorado halogens. Data doesn’t lie.
I have a high opinion of actual test data as well my first hand observations. Enjoy your stay with that engineering staff but you might want to upgrade your stock low beam bulbs like I did lol.

MyLEDs are very focused, throw is great, lights up the side of the roads and I see further better than any Halogen I have ever tried. The test for me is only a guide. Its just a test and its outdated as far as I'm concerned and there for means nothing to me now as LEDs are improving everyday. In the end, seeing better, further, wider and no light scatter is the main goal I was after and my D.D. SL1s do just that. No matter what everyone says or opinions they may have just don't mean shit to me as long as I am the ones happy!

The SL1s do not outperform stock bulbs in a 3rd Gen headlight. They create more foreground light and have mediocre focus for an LED, all the things previously mentioned. See the SL1 Tacoma review posted here. If you want a more focused LED, then use the best focused Morimoto 2stroke 3.0s covered here. But even the Morimotos are outperformed by a $9 halogen bulb upgrade.

It's sad that even with mathematical proof some people still won't get it. I'm guessing that has more to do with their mental capacity to understand the information provided... What's even more sad is that most of these same people are probably parents, and that's a scary thought. Those poor kids never had a chance. So sad.
