I started the program up with it plugged into the computer and the truck and it said to plug in the cable first. Unplugged from the truck and left it plugged into the computer and it worked. Goofy quirk.

Ahh, that makes a bit more sense. I didn't figure the laptop would even know the Tactrix was plugged in if it wasn't getting a signal from the OBD port but you don't know what you don't know until you know it.

    Thanks for the help

But yes, it is still somewhat of a pain. And by pain I mean first world problems. Lol.

Just bought and tuned using OVTune vF tuner. Using the stock tire size tune with the THX and it's a great improvement from the stock tune. So I get to thinking I wonder if there's folks out there trying to tweak and even improve upon these tunes from OV Tune and I find this forum.

From what I've seen on the software my ECU ID is a 04A60. Am I wrong? I seen at the top that 2018 AT had two ID numbers and the one closest to mine was 04A61?

It means there’s an update from Toyota for your ecu. There’s been a few of them over the years

more info here and instructions to update

@Shellshock - so is there any point or benefit to performing the stock update since I’ve already upgraded the ECU with an Orange Virus tune?

How do you open a .rar file? I searched on google and it says to use a file called 7 zip. Is this correct?

its typically recommended to run the lastest ecu revision for best results but it's not required. I started out on 04b12, updated to 04b13 and now am on 04b14. there's been a noticeable difference each time in my truck.. then add the tune on top and its only gotten better over the last 5 years.

think of it this way. the latest TSB / ECU revision is the latest base code from Toyota with any fixes they have. so you have the best available foundation to then add the tune.

@Shellshock - so will the OBD2 adapter and dongle cable I got from OV Tune work to update the TSB?

You’ll need the updated tunes for the ecu. You can just message zendesk and request the updated tunes for the tsb and they’ll send them to you.

@Shellshock - which version is the latest and greatest TSB update for my current ID (04A60)? Is TechStream and the latest TSB update free?
