All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!

I have had them in the past. In my 4runner and Bronco. I had some good experience with mine. Used one to winch with a lot, back in the early 2000.

Optima has been in the biz for along time. They have a solid rep. I think that for your purposes it will do great.

Batteries are getting expensive. Definitely buy one from a place that will swap it out if it acts up. I have bought countless batteries from Autozone.

Optimas used to be the cream of the crop - but, they were bought by Johnson Controls, and the production moved to Mexico. And they forgot to bring the quality with the move.

Supposedly, Optimas have gotten better - but I know a lot of people, myself included, that will not run Optimas any more.

I could potentially be persuaded. Got a link or any more info?

Not the first time I've heard this.

Too many to list. I’m lazy
Anyone have experience with a Diamondback/Front runner rail system?

Have a friend that bought a cover and the load bars but it didn’t come with the rail system that the bars attach to. Can’t seem to find them individually anywhere.

    Any help appreciated.

You most likely need their "foot set" to mount into a slot rail (Part# FASS012) sold in pairs. I have six feet attaching my slimline rack to the rails on my camper shell. If you don't have rails on the cover, it's a different system they'll sell you.

They wont come up on their site if you search the number, you'll have to call them either way. They're incredibly helpful on the phone.

So I am trying to plan out some mods but am looking for some input on if anyone has them and can help validate/justify doing them. Looking for if they are practical or just for shits and gigs. Any and all input is appreciated! Side note: my truck is mainly used for Home Depot hauls and is my daily. It’s a 2WD and basically a mall crawler except I refuse to got to the mall…

    1. OV tune versus KDmaxx. I am mainly looking for better shift points, increased throttle response and a little better MPG. Where I work I drive fast cars all day so I get my fast fix there but just looking to get a little better of the other stuff.

    2. TRD headlights. I have an SR5 but am thinking of getting a set of TRD headlights with the LED strip on the inside. Are the TRD headlights with the LED strip any brighter or is it just cosmetic?

    3. Huh spacers. Do they provide any benefit for handling or reduce body roll? I’m currently have TRD off-road suspension with 2” blocks . I don’t want my wheels sticking out like a moron but was just curious.

    @Stormpeacock

My understanding is that the OEM LED headlights are the best possible option.

They will help you clear larger tires. I used them when I was rubbing on the control arms (both upper and lower) before getting new wheels with better backspacing. They will not reduce body roll, as that is primarily controlled by the spring, but may slightly change handling as you would be going with a wider stance. However, you're also putting more force on the axles/hubs. I wouldn't add these unless you need to for one reason or another.

I have only had the K(D)Maxx. (Dave) himself tuned my truck when I was on orders in SoCal. Reconfigured and retuned for free when I had a request for a redline change. His rig is pretty impressive too, might even be on par with @Built2Ride, just on giant tires. And he was the one testing the tune development on his own truck. So they’re savvy with tires, weight, gears, etc.

Anyway, I highly recommended their tunes. The tuners are personally vested and driving tacomas with their tunes, the tunes themselves are game changing for shifting, throttle sensitivity, perceived acceleration speed and general drivability. Their customer service is miles ahead of anything OVT. The mileage part will only go up a little bit, maybe, when you’re done having fun, since it all of a sudden drives like a decent vehicle. Highway and city shifting patterns are SO much better. Last thought…get a much lighter “tip in” than you think you’d want. I have SLT and it’s way more than enough to impress you over stock.

Hands down should be the first mod to any Tacoma.

I SECOND that! I looked for 6 months for a Taco with LED headlights and no moonroof.
Brought it home last week from KY. Ended up driving after sunset for 3 hours, following my wife.
Light on the road was at least 2x the amount put out by HIR (IIRC) bulbs on my van. Wife said I never blinded her in the backview mirror.
They are expensive if they had not come on your truck originally, but are worth every penny.
