RLx02's ‘17 OR with 5.29s and 37s?

Wound up having a shop press out the axle and reinstall the new backing plate and bearings.



Put in new brake shoes and hardware and it stops perfectly again.


Now time for 35s

 

Spent a weekend at Westport and Grayland on the coast.






Decided to pull the trigger on 5.29s instead of 35s for now. I figure I'll need new tires eventually anyways, so might as just get the gears done first. Won't be getting them in until November, since the shop is so booked up. Stoked for the big upgrade.

 

Finally got out up to the mountains again and we wound up in an amazing hidden camping spot.





Naches hill climb was legit and wound up kissing that stump with my door handle and cab.

5.29 gears are done! Now just slowly breaking the gears in…

 

Break in complete and now getting ready for dirty-fives!

 

Pretty big difference, but then again they aren't mounted and under load.

 

What size tire full specs and tire model did you grab? They look beefy

 

35x12.5x17 Goodyear MT/Rs in C-range. They’re only 64 lbs if I remember. 2 ply but Kevlar sidewalls so they’re light but tough. My buddy wheeled them hard for 40k+ miles on his taco and never cut his sidewall. I’ve been looking forever for these but they’re out of stock everywhere. Got them dirt cheap for a set of 5 almost new, maybe 90% tread left.

Freshly mounted and stopped for a quick pic. Drives great so far, 5.29s are definitely the way to go if you’re gonna run 35/12.5s

Working on the rears…

 

Kept the stock fender braces on. Need to cycle the rear but it shouldn’t rub on the front of the fender where it’s located.

*edit* Definitely rubs on the front.

 

Thanks! Slowly but surely...also changed my mind a few times on what I wanted to do with this over the years.

 

Did a quick shake down to get some real world feedback. The rears are almost perfect except the front of the rear fenders barely rub the tire…will need to trim a little more there and see if I can reuse the brace.

Also rubbing the cab mount at full stuff and almost full lock turning passenger…ugh. Guess it’s time for a deeper CMC cut.

 

These Goodyears hook up so well in the mud.

 

Went out snow wheeling for the first time on the 35s and they did great!

This was up towards Hansen creek trail head near Snoqualmie pass, before the big snow storm. Definitely a good time.

 

How were the 5.29s with your 33's? Got some on the way.
