If you can do eeet! Check out project recon or something like that on insta they just finished theirs and had to do some cab mods. Just stay away from the ginormous canoe style desert racer style trailing arms. Remember what they're designing and rambling about is a 180 from what we are doing here.

Yeah I saw those trailing arm set ups. Looks like you lose a bit of clearance with those. Probably good if you plan on keeping the bed since the shock can be smaller and is mounted to the arm. I’m thinking I’ll grab 16” coil overs.

Lots of people go trailing arms there's a big advantage just those are far too big for us. Look at BK/TMR customs and theirs or WOD, etc. They make them specifiacally for high clearance and more our style type of wheeling. But mounting the shocks to the tube nets you a direct 1:1 ratio as well simplifies figuring out your spring rates with far less maths.

So I’ve seen some people put their lower links almost equal to the carrier bearing, but seems like most put it right after the frame bends up so it’s tucked behind it. Measures 39” straight back from the axle…not quite to the joint, but might be best for clearance

On #4, If you keep the links the same the pinion angle will change, it will keep it pointed at your transfer case. If you want to keep it the same angle you need the top link about 25% shorter than the bottom link.

Nice, thanks for that! I’ve got some homework to do. I’ve been playing with the crawlpedia spreadsheet. Leaning towards this-
    https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/4LK-OPT1.html
Or option 3 which is dual triangulated, but I don’t think there’s room.
Getting their 4’ DOM sticks unless BESCO is cheaper
Fox 16” coilovers from Accutune and give them the specs

I got most of my link stuff from Barnes, most of their stuff is 1/4 inch thick and cut and bent really nice.
Most of their prices are for two of them not one.

8 inch do ok, most of the Toyota mini trucks run 8 inch with 40s, as long as you keep it over geared and under powered.
Is a bigger diff better, sure but there is a lot of 8 inch running big tires.

Ok yeah you are correct, I was meaning the pinion angle will stay pointed in the direction you have it. Like you're referencing a double cardon and keeping it pointed at the output.

They don't like the wooopows for sure. Plus the ones we have are updated and a bit stronger than those old school 8s. Like you said over geared and under powered.

Im just reporting what i see, ive seen 3 now personally 05 plus Tacoma's bust their diffs on the trail and a good bit here on TW. That's been exclusively in rocks though. I was just saying if he's going to the trouble I would do it that way just so i didn't have to worry or think it could happen. Maybe he's just wanting to build a better performing truck and not planning on taking it through rough stuff. I wasn't saying its not doable just the likely hood of a busted diff is higher for sure. Tacoma drive train in general is weak for that big of a tire. Maybe its just the higher HP trucks that have issues lol? Our little engines cant get that much torque or HP lol.
