I'm looking for some insight into what people are preferring. I'm about to switch out my wheels and tires on my 2021 TRD OR. I've gotten input on lifts and such, but now have the problem of figuring out if I want to run 16 or 17-inch wheels. I'm specifically looking at the Method 701s.

My use is going to be as such: I use it partly as a daily driver, but not really. I have a work truck that I use for everything work-related but also use often to grab groceries, kids, etc to and from my way to work. I primarily use my truck to do some simple basic daily driving and then a few times a year for camping and hiking. I'm not doing any crazy rock crawling, but I will be adding RTT, high clearance bumpers, racks, Dometic fridge, and camping supplies for 2 (so... I'll be adding some weight and have some wind resistance that will affect MPG and comfort). My camping/adventure trips are a mixture of shorter next-state trips and cross-country multi-week trips so MPG matters.

For those of you using your rigs, are you running 16 or 17-inch wheels? I'm concerned about the weight of the wheel/tire along with the added weight of everything else and also, what makes the most sense. I've heard conflicting things about what wheels are easier to get (I'll most likely be going to K02s since I used them at work and love them) and what I should go with so I thought I'd ask the experts who actually use it.

    Thanks for everything!

The selection in 17in is much greater. Either size has a lot of sidewall for wheeling, esp aired down.

You'll be fine with either size. I went 16s because I liked the stock OR wheels. If I hadn't, I'd have gone with 17s.

16 or 17 are just fine. Personally, I don’t see the need for changing the stock wheels. It looks and works awesome. Beside, I like smaller wheels (15 or 16) and more tires. 17 inch is the biggest wheel I go on a truck. By staying with the stock, you can also save money.

Did you stick with your stock rims or switch them out to something the same size?

Don't get me wrong. I don't MIND the stock ones. BUT.... I by no means LOVE the look. The two-toned black and chrome on the stock don't match my theme at all, so I'm almost half "looks" and the other utility lol

17" wheels have more tire options and allow for bigger brakes if you want to upgrade in the future. I upgraded to 17s because of this.

To be honest, I've never thought of the brake situation.... I need to look into that. Any recommendations to research that and learn more about it? What were you trying to switch your brakes to that made you go the 17 route?

I got mine painted Matt black real good. I always keep stock wheels and paint it black right away. I only like black wheels. May be military sand color. Stock wheels are usually settle.

Did you do it yourself or have someone do it? I've considered getting it done since the shape isn't terrible but I've never done that so I figured, "I'm switching it out, so time for a whole new look."

After adding some weight, and especially going to 35s, braking ability is noticeably worse than stock. I'll end up doing either the lexus gx/4runner brakes or a big brake kit like stoptech.

Here's the link for the 4runner brake upgrade.

Get 17's for better tire selection in C-load and the ability to put on a BBK in the future if you want

I always do it myself. It usually takes me full day though. Sand, primer, sand, paint, clear coat. It usually comes out great and lasts for lifetime. Beside I don’t really care about my wheels being scratched up or scuffed up as I usually takes it off-road. I’m no better than you. I’m pretty sure you can do it as good as or better than me. You can also take it to a pro if you’re not comfortable.

17s are more popular and I’m pretty sure tires are cheaper for 17s because theyre more common
