So the word I get from one of our service managers is that the specific '17 (late 2017 build date) we are looking to buy is not affected.

Yeah, this guy is the grand master of clickbait. He has a few interesting videos, but 90% of the time is just crap like "The SECRET they won't tell you", "this fuel additive will SAVE your car", "NEVER buy this", "the END of (any current manufacturer), here's why (the same manufacturer) is the BEST.

It's not just white. Even machine gun metal and other colors people flock to can have issues. There is a thread going around for that right now. I think they all can have issues, this is just a gathering ground for people to complain. I think white just has a little more issues than others.

I would also like to know if ceramic voids anything. I wouldnt think it would because ceramic coating can wear off depending on how thick and what brand. I mean heck, an automatic car wash should void warranty if that's the case.

I don't know the official answer... but I am not sure they would be able to tell it is ceramic coated or not. It pretty much feels like you just got the car waxed, but lasts much longer. Most dealerships including where I bought mine try to sell you this type of coating for like $1500-$2000 at the finance table.

Agreed. I think they only way they might be able to tell is if they took a micrometer to it to measure thickness. That would probably only happen. If you are trying to talk to toyota for a paint issue and claim it's defective paint.

    What was your manufacture date?

I have 10/2017 manufactured in Texas for this 2017.

I have 2016 47k miles with the white flaking same spot on rear doors vertically along window trim. I have so far 2 brand engagement cases opened and their Sr Advisors at Toyota brand engagement telling there isn’t a service campaign open on mine and out of warranty. I’ve had a bad run through the dealership with them just getting pics and quote to the case, so I’m about to rip them some today, after I ripped the brand engagement guy yesterday.

Skip the dealership, call Toyota brand engagement 800-331-4331, open a case and ask for escalation. The more we can get people to do this the more it’ll hit their system and they’ll open a service campaign and fix this.

I've been calling them too, since the rep denied me. Same shit as when my fenders went. What's most annoying is when people try to defend Toyota. Paint falling off? FFS how long have they been painting cars? They didn't just start last week.

Having a second guess that my paint is peeling (hopefully). Maybe rock chips from BLM roads. Have a ton of miles on dirt. What do you guys think? Got some touch up paint on order.. have a 19 4Runner in white and it’s still good.

I feel for everyone who are having paint issues. Knock on wood I have not had any with my white 2019. At least white is an easy color to match if they do partial repaints.

Had my car professionally detailed and waxed to give the car just a bit more protection. When they were doing paint correction they took off a bunch of white paint on one of the creases along the front fender. The detailer mentioned that the paint is dangerously thin and definitely a defect from Toyota. They are paying to have the fender repainted however I feel like those with super white paint its a ticking time bomb before it fails everywhere. I am thinking about trading mine before it gets worse.. Hard to justify with the crazy prices Tacoma's are going for now and the suspension work and camper I have.

Paint peel started on my 2017 super white double cab… 88k miles. Washed every month and waxed every 3 months. I did my best to delay what was probably the inevitable. It appeared halfway through a road trip and is starting to get worse with every drive. Pictures are of when we reached our destination, I’ll see if I can grab some pictures post-drive in the morning. Paint is peeling on rear doors right behind the windows.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
That looks like a bad job of prior paint correction occurred there? Has that flaked and been reshot with no prep?
