Yea, my valve covers are leaking again, plus most of it is mud. I'll tear it apart soon. Have to work tomorow, but maybe Saturday or Sunday. I'm dying to know to.

Between the valve covers and oil filter changes I'm sure mine looks the same. Haha

I got the flange welded on the front cat, on to the second. Can any of you tell me the approximate distance between the end of the heat shield and the flange on the muffler side of the rear cat? I want to make sure the 02 sensor wire reaches once I get the cab on the frame. Pic for clarity.

Hello, I just regeared my tacoma. I went from 4:10 to 5:29, and now my speedometer is off around 5-10mph at speeds under 40mph and then after that it is about 20mph off. I am going 65mph and the speedometer is reading 85mph. How do I fix this problem on my truck? open to any ideas or solutions. Thank you.

I swapped out my speedometer gear to fix mine. I can't remember the gear count, maybe someone else can chime in.

The largest gear you can go to is 33 tooth. Here's the full list of speedo gears you can get (near the bottom). Here's how to replace it: Replacing the Speedo Gear

What Dan said! It’s a super easy swap, but definitely check out his walkthrough. He always does a great job and he’s super thorough.

FYI, if you went to 5.29s because you’re on 35s/315s, you’ll still read slightly fast with the 33 tooth gear, just not as bad as you were with whatever the stock gear is with those tires and gears.

If you want to know the true speed, I’d recommend getting something like an UltraGauge that can be calibrated to your specific setup. I have one, and that is only one of the many reasons why they’re so awesome.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
98-04 can also keep whatever gear they have and wire in a Dakota Digital speedometer correction box and dial it in exactly as well. Then it will report accurately on speedo, odo, and any OBDII device

Interesting, haven't heard of this one before but sounds like a great option. How difficult is it to adjust the box?

Super easy. There’s a calibration setting on it, you drive down the road at a set speed, check it against a GPS, then hit the + or - buttons until your speedo reads exactly the same as the GPS. You can change it for different tire sizes, change in gear ratio, whatever.

I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever get around to re gearing. It's always been on my list of things to do but the last 3 never got it. I tend to draw a line at things I can install myself and gears just always seemed a little too technical for my taste or maybe it's just a lack of confidence :notsure:

I've come close to ordering a front diff with a locker from ECGS a few times but that's a little difficult to justify the $$$$ at times

I've also put quite a bit into this truck in the last year or so. Who knows maybe 2022 will be the year of gears :curls::muscleflexing::benchpress:

Even if you’re running stock gears but have changed tire size, it will throw off your speedo and odometer. Or your speedo may even be off from the factory, as @turbodb has found.
The Dakota Digital can correct all that, if you care to.

Headed home last night truck started to shake and engine light was flashing...330k miles had that oh crap moment.

Pulled over and turned out the #4 spark plug wire was almost seperated...stripped it and electric taped it and made it to oriellys through new plugs and wires on real quick...good as new.

I had that happen to me merging onto the interstate a few years ago, definitely an oh crap moment. Same thing, a spark plug wire was damaged.

I replaced my OE front cat last year, it was connected to the header pipe with just a regular nut and bolt setup, no spring.
