according to crutchfield the hole in the front doors is 5.1"

the woofers i have for my component set have a mounting diameter of 5.34" (Alpine Type R 6.5")

they provide these scosche adapter plates, so i'm curious why they wouldn't space the woofer out a bit anyway making the effective diameter smaller. i guess they don't.

aside from cutting the sheet metal 1/8 of an inch all the way around, is this a matter of just getting a thick baffle made to bring the woofers out more? to me, it looks like it goes from the 5.34" down quite a bit IMMEDIATELY as you move toward the magnet.

i see these 3/4 and 1" baffles from Mr. Marv - i figure these would solve the issue, but how much room is there to space the woofers out from the sheetmetal before it hits the door panel grille area/ plastic?

    thanks.

I am not sure what that 5.1" is referring to. If you pull off your door panel you will see that the hole in the front doors is like 10 inches across, that's why they have the adapters because the whole is too big for any speakers. There is plenty of room for any component speaker. I have the RE xxx6.5's and they are much much larger than the alpine type r's and mine fit fine.

    thanks.

hmm, yeah i looked at a bunch of pics and the holes look slightly oblong and rather huge. strange.

and it's not like they are talking about the rear holes, because they are ample size as well, no? i believe ilovetacos put 7" drivers w/ baffles in his rear door, no problem.
