Programmed TPMS sensors for 2006 Tacoma recommendations?

Any recommendations for replacement TPMS Programmed Tire Pressure Sensors via Amazon or Rock Auto would be appreciated. Mine went out a long time ago after using a pressure washer on my rims without a valve cap in place. I am going to replace my tires very soon and as long as I am in that process (Costco) it would be a good time to get the TPMS back online

 

Update on my post regarding TPMS replacement. On Amazon I find units with respectable ratings at about $20 apiece. I went in to Costco today to order tires for my Tacoma with install next week and asked if I could bring in my own sensors for replacement with new tires. I was informed "NO"! Costco has TPMS units at $45 apiece. I figured what the heck and bit the bullet. Bridgestone 80,000 tire tread, roadside warranty, yadi, yadi, yada....a little over $900 otd for a full set! Just 6 months ago I paid $1,300 for a set of 6 Firestones for my Winnebago RV!

 

I bought the highest recommended one on Amazon for the truck, forgot to write down that important number for adapting on it, but Costco was still able to activate it with their tool anyway. Despite it being already in there and me not providing the number.
They did it for like $20.
Used to be free.

 

Costco informed me today they would not let me bring my own sensors in for tire install. They charged me $45 each. So for the cost on Amazon and if Costco were to charge $20 each to activate, I guess it's a wash at $45. Man, stuff is getting expensive!

 

They have one or two $1k programmer tools sitting in the shop.
There is nothing stopping an employee from walking out to the truck with it, and programming it.
I would know because I've done exactly that for people multiple times.

Even the time I was charged $20, it's because that was around their minimum charge, to get me on paper and in the door/shop with an appointment. Apparently they are no longer allowed to be straightforward, commonsense, and practical, in terms of just stepping out real quick. Apparently because a programmer tool got lost somehow. Not really sure how you do that but I went along with it.

Whole point of Costco for TPMS is to be cheap. To avoid $200/ea at the dealer. Not sure where they get the logic to up price to $45/ea.
The Costco tire center does not make money. It never has. It's not supposed to. They didn't design it to. They also have a limited selection of shitty tires.
The people in charge made tires there offered to push customers inside of the store to do a bunch of shopping and buy stuff that *does* make the company money, while they weight for their tires to finish being installed. That's why it's always been cheap, and in many cases, unbeatable deal in terms of tire cost, unnecessary rotates & balances that they do anyway costing themselves money, etc.

whoever you have install your tires, I wonder if they can throw in a programming if you provide sensors.
Or even the dealer.
If the service advisor isn't a dickhead, he might allow it. Or a mechanic. If you pay them, if they have the capability/tools, they wouldn't mind.

 

I bought sensors for my Tacoma and F150 off Amazon. Discount Tire charged me nothing to install and program them. I paid $20 each on Amazon, Discount Tire had some, but at $65 each. I also put some on a Jeep Wrangler several years ago from Amazon. A local independent tire shop installed those. Those didn't need to be programmed. The light went off after driving for 3-4 miles.

 

Man, I just looked again closely at my Costco receipt! They charged me $45 for each sensor and ANOTHER $20 each for activation!

 

I ordered four on eBayMotors, and they arrived a couple days ago, programmed for 2009-2012 Tacoma, so I will install them before I take the wheels and lug nuts in to my guys at Costco Tire. I must be the only guy who changes a battery in the parking lot, so they write off the core charge as I took the battery in the cart to the car, and Mike came out of the bay as I approached to shorten my walk. On another occasion I carried a flat tire on the wheel into the shop for repair, then drove home and put it back on the rig. They were surprised by that, too.

 

I was charged $20 to get the truck in and done.
I'm not sure why they'd charge you $20 each given that the procedure in the programming tool sometimes is a whole entire go around.

It will literally instruct you to go around the whole vehicle in a circle, to go through all the sensors (holding tool up to them) to first even read if they are all alive/working/batteries not dead, before syncing them to the vehicle.
At least depending on the model. It varies based on the car, and the tool has a menu to select each vehicle before it populates instructions for it.

the employee literally has nothing to gain from it. They are on an hourly guarantee, not flat rate. They get paid either way. And when it is slow, their policy is to sweep the floor to look busy for the camera, or walk inside the store to bag groceries. In what is an entry level job. Odd call to charge $100+ but maybe things have changed.

 

Just noticed today one of my lug nuts is missing! (Costco tire install) Will update after I head over to Costco tire dept. tomorrow to see what reaction I get.

 

Costco car care is for people who just swipe a card and drive. It's not for the informed or thinking customer.

 

I went in looking for a tire by size and the girl couldn't fathom a tire that's 31x10.50 - even wanted to know what was currently on the rig (235/75) but she could not understand I wanted a tire sized 31x10.5 as though they didn't exist and I was wrong. She had the white shirt, so I figured she'd have experience. Just amounted to another costco letdown.

blue shirt means they let you lift a car 1ft off the ground.
White shirt means they pay you more to click the torque wrench.

10.5" is approx 265mm tread width
so if 17" wheel then 265/70r17 to make it 31"

not supposed to be. Torque spec is 86ftlb on a 6lug. Costco says come back within 100 miles for a torque check.
On mine I set and forget. Never came loose.

Might be an opportunity to install OEM lock set.

 

Sounds like you're in her boat. Off road tires are available in US sizing of inches in height/inches in width/inches of wheel. I wound up getting what I want (tires stamped 30/10.50/xx) from a tire guy who knew exactly what I was doing when I told him what I wanted.

 

Depends on the Costco. I love all the Costco Tire folks I've dealt with at Anchorage, Coeur d'Alene and Missoula. In Cd'A, Costco and Best Tire will refer you to the other if they don't have the tire you're looking for. I happened to surprise them before by carrying in a flat tire, which they repaired for nothing, and another time replaced a battery in the parking lot so one of the blue shirts happened to be near the register and showed the young lady how to remove the core charge before I wheeled the cart and new battery out to the (far end of the) lot), changed the battery and wheeled it back toward the shop. Mike met me partway back and grabbed the loaded cart. Great people are where you find them.

most likely they have the same programmer that I have. It literally takes less than 5 minutes to program new sensor(s). 45 bucks for each sensor is average for aftermarket in my opinion. If anything as for charging a fee for activation, I would program for free if the sensor(s) were purchased from me. 20 bucks total for all sensors if you brought them to me.

What programmer is that?

 

Ateq VT56, it's a few years old now, but works great..after getting used to the quirky User Interface that it has. I supposed the newer programmers are even better
