You’ll get there. Either keep socking away until the market crashes or buy a hilarious project and have fun with it!

Amy’s never actually said no to anything car related. She’s been annoyed by me at various points, but never actually said no. She didn’t like my Subaru and doesn’t like the Vette but at least does appreciate my passion for all things automotive.

When I sold the STi in 2016 the plan was a long search for the perfect 300ZX TT. When my truck was totaled a month later it was her that kept telling me I needed to find something fun or else I’d just be responsible since we were planning on having our first and would put the money towards kids’ stuff. The Vette was a stopgap although sometimes I wonder if i should have just bought a GT-R and a $500 winter beater. Since they were not that much more than the Vette and my truck combined back then.

Well that was a fun ride from Buffalo! And it's not done yet!!! They have me going to Boston first and I only made it to the Natick plaza before I had to pull in to take my 8 hr break. I just hope I can make it there and back to RI before my 11hrs driving time runs up!

Yep, had a fun ride into work. No one really on the roads, beat the snow plows out in a lot of the towns I drive through so I spend a good portion of my drive sideways with an ear to ear grin on my face. Rule #32, Enjoy the little things

Fun ride in. Wasn't bad actually, nobody out there, just some amateur plow drivers going 65 in a 25. Cleared my driveway in 5 minutes this morning with a shovel. :D no need for snow blowers :spy:

Says it should end around 1. I'll stay at work until 4 - clear off, get home in the daylight and then clear a bit of the driveway. Sunday 40 and rainy, so, likely get rid of some then.

Cool. It is your namesake afterall :D

If you getting the inflated value for you trade in, then MSRP is a fair deal. My 2017 Tacoma is between 31 and 34k in trade value, that basically what I paid. So the few grand between invoice and MSRP is off set by the inflated trade.

When I traded my 2019 Tacoma last June they gave me $3k more for it than I paid OTD new, then turned around and listed it for almost $41k - $2k more than MSRP. Wild stuff.

Deal on the cap looks like it will go through. I found a Platinum Tri-Coat White cap for my Oxford White truck (fancy white vs. work truck white). Actually found an image on the interwebz where a guy did the same thing and it looks pretty damn close in the photos, hardly noticeable at all in direct sun, seems to be more noticeable in dim light (sunrise/sunset). If it really bothers me, I may rekindle the painting option or even try to vinyl wrap it over the summer but I'm hoping I can live with it as-is. Diamondback cover is looking like it's going to be retired soon (really liked the cover, but needs are changing and the cap makes a lot of sense).

I have to believe a vinyl wrap would have the same color difference issue unless you did a full wrap on the truck, but then you'd just be a contractor, right? Mike's Plumbing - Laying Pipe...in your community?

You've had caps before, right? I had a cap for the winter prior to my 2013 getting totaled and then had a cap on my 2016 for about three months before I realized it wasns't for me. I'd at least hang onto the cover for a bit so you're not rebuying it if you change your mind. I never got rid of my tonneau when I had my cap and I was very glad I didn't.

I don't think we're going to get enough to bother clearing here. I just looked at my back yard camera and can still see the grass poking up through the snow. It's slowed down to flurries, too.

My snowblower attachment arrives Tuesday morning, so I'd like at least a foot shortly after that.

I'd be wrapping the cap, not the truck. I have some vinyl that's a pretty spot on match that I bought for a different project. I could get more of it for a cap if needed. I'd imagine it's less expensive than painting and it's something I could prep and manage myself.

I have had caps in the past. I had one on my Tacoma for several years and then again on the F-150 I replaced the Tacoma with. The cover has been great, and I will keep ahold of it for a while just in case, but I think a cap is the way to go for me. I'm looking to expand my dry, lockable storage specifically for larger items, like bikes for example. Should be a good fit. The cap is pretty top of the line, it's the ARE Z-series, carpeted liner, strip lights running the whole length, LED tail light, frameless windows, it's pretty nice!

It's good you found a match for the truck. I was thinking wrapping the cap only would create the same color shade difference between the unwrapped truck and wrapped cap, which is why I suggested wrapping the whole truck.

Sounds like the cap is definitely the right fit for you, then.

Oh, yeah, I see your point unless I can get an exact vinyl match (which is unlikely, it'd just be closer). The tri-coat is more of a metallic white and has some other hues mixed in. In direct sun, they go away and it's not noticeable.
Here's the photo I found online. The truck on the right is White Platinum Tri-Coat, the truck on the left is Oxford White and it's sporting a cap that's White Platinum (exactly what I'm going to be doing).

    Another picture of the mis-match:

It's pretty close, hopefully I won't mind it. Just committed to buying it. Guy's down in RI so little bit of a road trip.

I'm usually VERY picky about that stuff and I don't honestly really see it in that photo, so that's high praise in my book.

[IMG]Untitled by Mike M, on Flickr

That's one of two photos I've got of my truck with the cap on my truck and you can see that my cap, even color-matched wasn't an exact match to my truck. What's funny is if you look at the ACLB behind me that's supposedly the same color as mine, my cap would be a perfect color match.

Why I never took more photos of my truck with the cap, I do not know.
