None of this has ever bothered me. If my brain thinks it's good and I don't get sick then that's all that matters.

Likewise. The vast majority of our meals are home cooked from unprocessed base ingredients (rather than kits or convenience stuff), so I don't fret about the infrequent visit to a fast food joint.

From an operations perspective, that's really a smart way for them to reuse what would otherwise be waste. Who among us doesn't throw leftovers together into new dishes at home?

If you watch Taco Bell's various promos and new stuff they're generally finding different ways to put the same ingredients together, minimizing the necessary changes to their supply operations.

My immune system is top notch, I haven't been sick for more than a day in over 15+ years. Never use hand sanitizer or get a flew shot.

I can't remember the last time I ate at Taco Bell but thanks to this thread I never will again. I bet the people who know never eat the stuff. Same goes for hot dogs. Knew a lady once who worked at a hot dog plant in SC. She once told me that if I ever saw the meat that goes into hot dogs before it's processed I would never touch another one again. I'm sure that goes for most processed foods. Most people are like dogs, they'll eat anything based on taste alone.

That's basically the MO of all Mexican/tex Mex restaurants.

3 or 4 fillings rolled up in 5 different shells you have a complete menu.

I worked in the kitchen at Casa Gallardo when I was a kid..... Prep was easy. And Sopapillas are just deep fried Pillsbury biscuits.....

You do you, but realize the same will be true for all of the fast-food (and even quick-serve) restaurants.

Low end value-items are able to be priced that way for a reason.

With any restaurant one can be selective in what you choose.

True, but knowing and not knowing is everything when it comes to food.

Guess it depends on one's upbringing.

I'm not at all bothered boiling a chicken / turkey carcass for stock and picking the bits of meat off to use for soups. Same for ham hocks. Grew up in the country and while I didn't live on a farm myself, I had friends who did. They didn't waste stuff. Knew folks who made their own sausage - there's a reason for the "Everything but the oink" idiom.

So to me it doesn't seem out of the ordinary that commercial operations are doing (functionally) the same stuff farmers have been doing for most of history.

As I said though, each to their own. What we had ingrained into us as kids deeply affects our food perceptions as adults.

    Yeah.
Eh, most parts of the world waste no part of the animal. A prime cut of meat isn't necessarily healthier. I try to buy the less-processed variety of hot dogs and don't worry too much about it. I also don't worry about Taco Bell, although I'd mostly be concerned with salt intake if I ate there regularly.
