That’s a brilliant idea, I might have to do something like that.

So I understand that with the front runner rack system built for the Diamondback cover you’re still able to open the panels. But what if I have to haul something or load something on top of the cover? I understand that the cover can hold the weight of let’s say furniture or appliances etc, but would that mean I have to remove the rack system if I had to load something? If that makes any sense.

the bars screw down into a rail. My rails are sealed down and never coming off. But it’s only maybe an inch tall. The bars themselves and the brackets they screw(2 screws) into do need to come off. I use an electric screwgun and can have the bars off in a slow 60 seconds. By hand maybe 3 minutes? Then I just strap them upside down to the cleats on the outside of the rail or leave them at home.

So then if you had to load something on top of the DB it’s a real easy process to remove? I read through this thread that a couple of people were saying it was a pain to take off

For the FRO load bar legs, just loosen the bolts first with a hand tool before using a power tool to avoid stripping the bolts. Tighten by hand first, also, before zipping them up with a power tool. Power tools help make removal go quicker.

Those who purchased the SE & put a rooftop tent on it, or exceeded the weight limit, do you regret it?

No problem with a normal RTT. The SE/270 can handle plenty of weight. Your bedsides will probably fail before the diamond back. HD is cool, but its overkill for our trucks.

Do you have the SE? I keep thinking I’ll regret the SE. It’s a major purchase so I just want to be 100% satisfied with it.

Buying one tommorow from a guy $1k with tool bin. I plan on throwing a tent on eventually. The SE will get the job done. I agree that the HD is overkill. If I could put an atv on the back I’d get HD but 5ft bed is too small for all that.

“Time to do some sketchy stuff. Doo-Dah, Doo-Dah. Hope I get away with it. Doo-Dah, Doo-Dah.”

Did this before the holidays last month. Switched out the longer bolts supplied by Roofnest for the shorter ones supplied by Front Runner and added a third set of FRO rtt mounts at the back for more stability/support.

Note: one can use a floor jack, a couple jack stands and a length of 2 x 4 on the Diamondback cover for making adjustments on your bed rack / crossbars cargo.

Any of you living out in SoCal interested in doing a trail run or trail run with camping meet and greet? Good times for seeing each other’s rigs with their Diamondback cover mods in person. Maybe, do some kind of road trip to Central Cali and have a combined meet up with NorCal, CenCal & SoCal people?

So I went ahead and purchased the SE after days of debating with myself. I’m really excited for it, right before I purchased it I saw another Tacoma with the cover installed drive by me. I want to eventually get the front runner rack system, does anyone know if I’m able to run a rooftop tent and some mountain bikes at the same time?

somewhere in this thread a guy made some brackets that hold the bikes on the sides of your tent/bed off of his tent rack. It looked really cool. My guess is for sure.

I have the HD but we have loaded up the tent, firewood underneath and a 65lb canoe on top a few times last year. I honestly think the HD is stronger than the bed itself, I’d bet the SE could handle it.

I’m sure the SE should be able to hold the weight of the tent and a bike or two, right? Would you place your firewood on the actual cover or inside the bed?

They are great, even though I’ve had few chances to use them. Allows for more options on the DB.
