I just recently moved. This is the 7th move for this safe. thats including getting it home from the store and we still have to unload it here. I told my wife that if we move again its staying with the house and I'm buying a new one with delivery. Damn Things are a BEAST of BURDEN to move.

Yep. Mine has moved quite a bit with me as well. 6 times, I think. I didn't learn that the door comes off easily until the last one....when we paid movers.

I never thought about seeing if the door comes off. I just always use a utility dolly if Im forced to move it myself. If not its on the movers. But this time we opted to move ourselves using a friends and family. trying to save money for the current remodel.

open the door so that it is perpendicular to the safe (90* out) and lift up. It very well may lift up and off.

    It should come off.
Watch out for a ball bearing in the top hinge. Most safes have a greased steel ball there held by grease only. It will often stick to the door part of the hinge and fall out.
Half of the safe's weight is in the door. I used moving straps and 2 people to lift the door off my safe.

If hinges are on the exterior/not hidden door will come off. Pull straight up, with a helper. It will be at least 200# for a smaller 26 gun safe.

My safe isn’t even *that* heavy at 330# but when we moved two years ago, I told my kids “the next time this safe moves, you’ll be the ones moving it!”

I bought one of those locking steel cabinets from Academy for $50, made some wood shelving for it and store my ammo in it.

You may be onto something there. My ammo is just sitting on shelves in my closet. I don't have a doomsday amount of ammo, so it isn't that big of a deal, but it is taking up more room than I'd like.
