Suspension Experts needed: OME and 5100?

    So i just bought a new to me 2014 Tacoma v6 manual access cab. I have a set of Toyo r/t 265/70/17 that I’d like to run. They rubbed at full turn on my friends 2018 Tacoma with ome springs and 5100’s.

    I don’t understand you can put ome coil springs and run the 5100’s on a lower setting and get a better ride than preloading the stock springs with 5100’s on a higher setting. From what i know, which may be wrong, that is not going to give you more lift. UNLESS the ome springs are a stiffer spring rate than stock Tacoma springs.

    So if you run stiffer rate ome springs than stock, wouldn’t that make it ride just as stiff/harsh as stock Tacoma spring preloaded extra by bilstein 5100’s? Like being oversprung vs too much preload.

    I’m looking to clear the 265/70/17’s and level the truck. really seems like spacers would be cheaper and better than 5100’s because I’m not pre loading the spring, or adding stiffer ome springs. The spacers would just

    You stated a few misconceptions.

    Preload does not degrade your ride quality if kept within spec.

    The OME springs have a lower or equal spring rate to stock (600, 650, and 700 vs 700).

    Bilstein designed the 5100’s for the stock coils. If you use longer aftermarket springs, you lose the ability to adjust your preload which negates a big advantage of the 5100s.

    Changing the ride height of your IFS will not completely eliminate rubbing, because the tire must travel that same path through space. All you are doing is changing the starting point. Depending on how you drive, you might reduce the occurrence of rubbing, but the chance won’t go away.

    Right, I just hear a lot of people recommended 5100’s with OME springs. I don’t see the point.

    I am mostly just daily driving and will get on some forest roads every now and then. No crawling really

    I guess for extra weight like a bumper and winch but for stock I would think it would ride harder than the 5100’s on the 4th setting.
