I never liked the "So Called" 2 car garages that have one wide door, they are more like a 1-1/2 car garage.

It is a shame but modern GM seems to be pretty shitty, the Bolt or whatever their little electric car is has been recalled for catching fire and I think I read something about a Class Action Lawsuit a couple weeks ago for V8 Engines having bad Lifters or Cams.

Look up all the engine issues the Colorado/Canyon had in the 2000s.

A few years ago strongly against my wishes my Ex-GF's son bought a used Canyon, no kidding it shit the transmission after driving literally 1 mile and then the engine ended up having a bad head gasket and something else major wrong too that I cannot currently remember. Eventually he was able to trade it to someone that wanted to salvage some body parts from it to fix their crashed one.

my house has one of them. While yes that is true the one upside is It is nice to have a wide open space where you could pull something in the middle with no area between the two doors to obstruct. Don’t mind the little mess I keep in here, but the one side door fits a 1st gen 4runner and an accord just fine :)

That would be nice benefit, they basically seem like they can only fit one car by the time you put a lawnmower and some tools in there.

yeah they are basically good for just a car, no additional storage. That’s why I built my barn out back to keep the good stuff in.

Does that insulation you added to the door help at all?

That was one of the few vehicles he bought that didn't have a salvage title, right? The Aztek had a salvage title, the Dakota had a salvage title, and the Silverado has a clear title but it's read for the junkyard anyway...

That is correct, I also think his S-10 had a Clear Title but it was all fucked anyway cause it had an S-15 Cab swapped and many electrical issues.

I believe so. I’ve never done any before/after comparisons to check but the rest of the garage is insulated so it only made sense to do the door. The “kits” they sell are quite expensive, and I never found precut panels at lowes or depot that worked for an 8’ tall door anyhow. I bought a sheet of it and measured and cut myself, and secured with the foil tape. Probably cost me $50 or so, the garage is cold right now, I just checked using my temp gauge in the car says it’s 48°, but it’s also only 22° outside here.

Thanks for the info, my garage has 2 wooden garage doors and 2 metal garage doors, the metal ones seem to noticeable transfer heat and cold to the inside. Seems like putting some kind of insulation on the metal doors would be a worthwhile experiment.

Cylinder head or timing chain is my guess. The head was notorious for it, which is what happened to mine. The chains puked early too..supposedly GM was comping the owner for those, but that never happened. The fact that mine broke in warranty is one thing, the lies and cheating was the issue.

Y'all are lucky, the door to my garage is so low I can't get either vehicle inside.

You are absolutely correct it was a timing chain problem, with it being that 5 Cylinder l recall it requiring some kind of specialized tools too.

it can’t hurt other than a little waste of your time haha, I did mine after the first winter in my house and it was a nice little project that took only a couple hours. I also notice in the summer time that the radiant heat from sunlight is also blocked with it being insulated. If I ever get a new garage door I’ll just get one that already comes insulated from the factory. Even the best insulated doors are only like r9 rated, so it’s not as good as wall insulation but definitely has to help to some degree. The doors in my back garage are all Clopay insulated panels. 12’ high so that would suck to try and install insulation panels on them

Looks awesome in there, do you have some sort of flat roof or are those ceiling panels?

they are just metal corrugated panels like on the outside, the roof has a standard 4/12 pitch

Strange to think a truck bought new, adult owned and driven normally, never hauled/plowed with, should need a head and timing chain at 70K and be considered "normal"..despite being in powertrain warranty plus the secret one on the head. Makes you wonder why GM loses market share and was in need of a bailout.

Not sure about the 5 but I know the 4 and 5 cylinder engines both had those issues, mine was a 4
