Jeep Wranglers are worse. Not sure how Jeep continues to get away with it while Toyota didn't.

Mine is 10 years old I live in Maine read winter salt by the metric ton. My 87 had 300,000+ miles on it I took care of them my 2011 frame is still black. Clean it treat it. I am a fan of fluid film. I sold the 87 during the recall the buyer had a plan to make some money off Toyota bad news for him they ejected it.

All I can say is my Provincial and Federal hwys and roads spread the salt and brine like its free. Here in the snow belt in Central Ontario the vehicle doesn't stand a chance if ignored. Not sure if my good neighbours to the south had Ziebart Auto Care shops but I had them spray the underbody of my 17 Sport with a vasoline like oil, it never drips and stays on for a few years. Held up pretty good, but they closed up that shop in my town. Now with my new 22 Sport I took it in a week old and had DDF apply the whole underbody this vulcanized rubber coat call Diamond Kote, and fog all panels with a dripless oil, this time around. Lots of good feedback from it. Fingers crossed

I am asking you because you seem to be a prime example of what to follow for someone in the salt belt. Did you fluid film once a year? Twice a year? Did you rinse your frame throughout the winter? Thanks

Not quoted poster, but I've got a 2016 in MA that's going into it's 6th Northeast winter with barely anything on the frame. I do it once a year, in the fall but HEAVY including the boxed sections. I don't wash off throughout the winter outside of a ginger spray if it warms up and I'm hand-washing the truck.

I have so much FF in the boxed areas frame that on a 90 degree summer day I have drips in my driveway.

The Toyota dealer initially tried to deny me the K0D campaign because of my spray. Ultimately they did it without the waxy spray and just the covers, but I have documentation that my 12-year warranty is intact.

Yea I bought mine (used in september) with surface rust on the welds and very minimal surface rust here and there. First thing I did was FF the dog sh*t out of the frame then hit the weak spots with Wool Wax. Maybe I'm crazy but, it just snowed here and I am waiting for the salt to dissipate some before I drive it again.

So about that 12 year warranty thing, I don't have documentation, but I know for a fact it was done to my truck because all that white stuff and covers are there. I am wondering if I should go to the dealer for them to confirm this? I wonder if it would be on file

I've heard that the rubber coatings are to be avoided because once the barrier is broken/worn it'll just start to trap moisture and possibly salt.

I'm torn about what to do with mine. I'm leaning towards cosmoline just due to the fact that it seems it holds up better in rain...which we get a lot of. We don't get a lot of snow or salt here but definitely enough to need protection.

Do it. Cosmoline > everything else

Using both over the same area will make a mess. Saw that happen with a buddies tacoma when he sprayed cosmoline over fluid film. It never set up...just kept dripping everywhere.

Fluid flim washes off with lots of rain or when driving through puddles, and needs to be reapplied at least every year, cosmoline won't. We get a lot of rain here. I was doing my tundra every year with fluid flim yet i still had surface rust building up. With cosmoline on my 2020 since new, i haven't had to touch it yet

Is it plausible that my 2021 in the warm southern US will need something for rust prevention given I never (to my knowledge at least) go anywhere with salted roads?

Same for dakota's frames back in the day. Even rams till 2011 or so were pretty prone to body rust.
