Unlikely to make it past oil pump inlet screen. Although I have heard of oil filter medium particles clogging oil gallery passages.

Dear hit may have been a factor, maybe trash in the oil lines, something must have blocked the oil flow to the bearings. Who knows. I agree on rebuilt engine better than used out of the junkyard.

How would that get past the oil filter screen?

Reminds me of an old story:

A buddy of mine, who had to deploy, left his car with his little sister, since she needed the car, and he needed to store it somewhere.
When he came home, his car had a seized engine. When he asked his little sister about it, she replied, "The car takes gas... why would I put oil in it?"

I had an 86 22r engines crankshaft fail when the timing key sheared. Even the regional toyota office could not believe it when the dealer called them. They had to send an engineer to verify it. Came down to a metallurgical flaw in the key.

Sometimes it's a hidden, buried defect on a normally robust part...

Not saying that's the issue here but the most likely place the foil seal would get in would be the valve cover when adding oil. It could potentially clog a return passage before it ever made it to the pan.

Ah that makes sense. An issue with LS1s was oil return when the motor was operated at high rpm for long periods, like on a road course or open road race. I’ve spun the #6 rod bearing twice in 49k (hard) miles on my ‘01 Trans Am.

Problem is a motor made in Japan that is not rated for mini-van duty. The USA-made minivan motors are pretty much bulletproof. They have to be for minivan use.

Wouldn’t it be just swell if the group of people that beat the piss out of their things, never maintain them, and cry lemon law when they inevitably shit the bed just all self selected right out of the gene pool? Your GF’s mom could lead the way!
