Heck, if I found out while I was at work, I wouldn't even pack up my tools. My coworkers would just find a trail of my tools leading to the door.

Same! It wouldn't be a glamorous life, but I would survive.

I figure I would take the lump sum. Buy a house with cash, and never finance anything. Not paying interest would be a huge advantage.

Keep in mind there's a good 8-week processing time between you claiming the winnings and you actually getting the winnings

These threads above have gotten me thinking about a couple of things... first: assumptions. I just assumed-and if your dad was like my dan, well... Anyway, I just assumed that you guys all fell out of a money tree that I missed. Icon this, King that, whozits widget over here. I look at the pictures with some envy, and then realize the wife won't understand, and then, find the scrap metal to go make something like it if I can. I realize place in life maters: two girls headed to college versus a singleton working their @ss off makes a difference, as does a healthy dose of assumption... But the money discussions above make it a bit clearer-we are making do the best we can.

The other thing is that TW is a pretty cool "family" if you will. I wish I was closer (geographically) to you southies. I get beat up on here for asking questions the wrong way or some such, but overall I really enjoy this network (TW). Hoping to connect with this Wisconsin group more in the future... need to find more places to play here in the northlands (because the song of the mountains is so strong and far away...)

That's fine. I would use that time to pack, and get rid of everything. I'd probably start out with a road trip.

If I won the lottery I'd stay at my job for the time being. SAS the truck and turn it into a full time crawler, get a tow pig, buy a trail limo and build that and go disappear out west for a little bit, maybe 6 months. Oh and put some of the winnings towards investments and expand my garage and have a little fab shop

No money tree here. :( Just bad decisions and credit card debt.

This is definitely a special forum! I don't know what questions folks are giving you a hard time about, but it seems that some of the members get snippy about repeat questions and topics that have been covered. I hope I haven't said anything that came off that way.

What area of the state are you in?

We've done more meet-ups in the S/E area than anywhere else, for sure. But, I'd like to do some stuff the up north crew can get in on. We do the camping trips, but if you're further north and west, they might still be pretty far from you.

I'll never understand people that win the lottery go on a massive spending spree. Giant million+ dollar mansions, $250k cars and such. Can you imagine the real estate taxes on those massive houses?! They would deplete their lottery winnings in less than 10 years

I've been tempted a couple of times lately to make some big purchases on the credit card but I've been keeping those demons at bay. Maybe when I get it payed down a bit I'll get a couple of things

New gears have been very tempting lately. Or new wheels and tires. What's stopping me is the fact those purchases would max out the credit card or close to it

Lol I just dumped cash into my investment account because I've been eyeballing the Magnuson supercharger too much lately. Had to take the temptation away :anonymous:

    For now......

I need to open another account for truck parts and put a little bit away every paycheck.

Quitting smoking would help too :anonymous:

I totally agree! I would go on a bit of a spree, but I wouldn't buy Lamborghinis or anything ridiculous.

I saw some show where they took lottery winners house-shopping. One couple had won something like $1.1 million (net). They bought an $880,000 house!

So, they spent about 80% of their winnings, just like that.

Personally, if I had $1.1 million, I'd buy a ~$200K house on a canal in Florida, a nice fishing boat, and go work at a bait shop.

I quit in October '16. It's hard. I think it only worked because I actually wanted to quit.

Plus aren't American Spirits like, $13/pack over there in Commieland?
