The Pro is a terrible value. You can improve the Off-Road to be better than the Pro for less money.

Unless you're the type that thinks the Pro is somehow a status symbol. Then it's perfect for you.

I’d like the status symbol, but they don’t make a color I like. Cav or Cement would have been fine back in the day.

My loaded 2021 OR is pretty close to pro specs. Suspension is the only major difference. I’ll eventually upgrade that, but it’s fine stock.

The Trail Edition ..interesting concept of insulated storage boxes in the back of the bed…for those who like the idea…?
Wish Toyota kept the driver side storage box , like the 2016 Tacomas…. Or even add more storage without losing bed space..?

The TRD Pro and the Trail editions are lifted relative to other Tacomas. The rest of the trims (SR / SR5 / TRD Off-Road / TRD Sport / Limited) all have effectively the same ride height.

Cosmetic, yes, but you have to select packages to equip an Off-Road to match the Pro in terms of leather, moonroof, LED headlamps, etc.

Why you'd ever buy a Trail for more than an off-road with less content is baffling to me. It's a lifted SR5. If it was cheaper than the Off-Road it's a tremendous value, but the creature comforts you give up to pay more is baffling.

The Pro might be a bad value if you're willing to put in the wrench time, but for someone who wants to jump in and drive and maintain a factory warranty, it makes sense. You get some aesthetic tweaks compared to the more base trucks, the higher ride height and the other niceities. Had the Pro had a moonroof option I'd have likely just bought that instead of my TRD OR as I ended up buying all the parts separate and putting them on. Did I save money, sure, but there is value in not having to DIY it. To some people the trim level matters and there's nothing wrong with that. Yes, it's not like the Pro is supercharged and the base model isn't, but until recently the Pro did offer items that the base trucks didn't out the door.

Great to hear.... But I was responding to the point that OR and Pro aren't the only ones with the 8.75" rear diff....

Here a just a couple of things that made me decide on the Pro.

    LED headlights
    Electric drivers seat
I prefer the Pro style wheels
    Skid plate
    LED fogs
    Fox suspension

just those six (6) items alone are not financially trivial. I read about many of you spending THOUSANDS to mod an OR and then claim they saved SO MUCH MONEY. Excuse my outbursts of laughter when I read it EVERY-TIME.

Your numbers would only work if you couldn’t get those items on a stock truck or for cheap after the fact. LED headlights and fog lights are available on the OR for $485. Power adjust drivers seat is standard as well. Skid plate costs $300 when sale.

LEDs are a $500 option. Skid plate is $300. I thought everything 2020 and up had electric seats. That leaves..... 5-10 grand for your choice of wheels and suspension. I'll take kings over oem fox

Manual OR would probably be the best value over the Trail, if the buyer wants a manual.

I agree buying the Trail for more money than the OR does not make sense. They are basicly the same truck one is more money with less content than the one that costs less.

I do like the trail as a package just not for more money. I could go with out the bed boxes. I'd prefer a more upgraded suspension than what is offered. I like the all black cloth interior, the bronze wheels, and the optional colors.

Toyota should have offered an upgrade package to the SR SX access cab. Rear locker on 4x4, black cloth interior front buckets with rear seat delete the rest of the SR interior looks the best to me. The bronze wheels off the trail and LED headlights.

I also hear so many quote you can get an OR for 10k less than a Pro. Either you guys are real good at dealing or it’s a lie. That wasn’t my experience and I’m pretty good at dealing.

    The wingnut behind the wheel
LED headlights: $450 upgrade on an OR from the factory (and not great if you live in cold climates)
Electric drivers seat: came standard on my OR (the only added option was all weather floor matts and door seal protectors)
Pro style wheels: $180 per wheel, or $720
    Skid plate: $450
LED fogs: $340 for DD SS3 Pro fogs, which are probably better than what comes on the TRD Pro (guess on my part)
Fox suspension: $1350 for Toyota's TRD Pro lift kit

So, $3,310 assuming someone does their own work. The MSRP of the Pro is about $10,000 more than the OR. So, I could get King shocks ($3K), beadlock wheels ($2K), rock sliders ($1K), and high clearance front ($1.5K) and rear ($1.5K) bumpers before I came close to the cost of a TRD Pro while still having LED headlights, fogs, and a Pro skid plate.

Now, if someone puts a skewp, badging, and leather seats above function, sure the Pro might be a better deal.
Glad you are laughing though and glad you like your truck.

How much is the Trail edition vs the TRD OR?

So it doesn't have crawl control and MTS/ATRAC? This is kind of sad. They should have kept that

    It has TRD OR skids.

So the only thing it has over the OR is a 1" lift and wheels? but it lacks the CC/MTS of the OR/PRO.

That is based on MSRP, I payed MSRP for my OR. Is someone cutting special deals on the TRD Pro? Toyota does not have the Pro in the builder on their site at the moment, but here is documentation of MSRP differences.

I bought mine in December 2020 for 47,000 plus tax and registration. Are all of you telling me I could have purchased the OR FOR $37,000? I was not aware that one could, hmmm.

I purchased my OR for $37,400. Granted, I flew to a different state and had to drive it 2000 miles home. So, call it $39,000. But, if I had been local.

But yours is a manual. You can’t get an automatic for that can you?

Does your manual include electric front seat as others are claiming?

I think the Trail is 42,plus for the cheapest option. I think a base manual OR is 38plus. I don't know if these nubers are correct.

I think it has the OR skids. I know it does not have the Pro skid. Most dealerships will probably add that, I don't think any Trail buyers would complain.

I don't really need a locker, or the CC. The locker would probably be more useful.
