Removing bolts in the bed

3/8 hand impact driver if they are all that tight. If a torx slips it pretty well trashes the bolt. If you are trying the big bed bolts crawl under it first the some PB blaster then coat it with anti seize when you put it back in.

 

So I picked up an impact screw driver and those bits that pull out stripped screws. The impact screw driver wouldn’t fit. And the bits would have worked….but the bolt is in there so tight that it won’t turn.
So tomorrow I’m going to picked up a dremmel and try to cut a notch in the bolt head so that the impact driver will fit in it.
I can’t believe how hard these things are to remove

 

I had to take these out a few months ago and remembered it was a PITA. I’m trying to remember what I did to ultimately get them out. I think I hit it with pb blaster and let it soak over night. When and if you do get them out, replace with premium hardware. Ace has a way better selection than Home Depot and lowes from what I’ve seen for metric.

 

Dremel a straight deep notch and a big ass flat head screw driver is what finally did it for me man. Was a total “FUCK YES” moment when i got them all out

 

I destroyed a few of those and replaced them with m6x1.0 10mm bolt heads.

 

I used an impact wrench set on low to lightly pound them free. They’ll come out but you have to be patient and make sure your torx is strong and fits tight.

If anyone in SoCal wants a free front bed rail, all you have to do is removed the stripped bolt head from my truck.

Don’t have a pic of it right now but it’s the most left bolt. I completely stripped the star hole.

 

Well I got the bolts cut. I had to use the impact drill to get them out. There was no way they were coming out by hand. The sports bar is in and I’m ready to take Jennifer to the lake for the weekend!
