But that's just it, online discussions from other car groups don't fully support 4th gear (1:1) pulls.

In the following link, someone says the numbers are within 5 on a Dynojet depending on if they're in 3rd or 4th.
    https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-m...ynoing-4th-gear-pull-v-3rd-gear-pull-2352096/

This link shows someone say it's within 1 on a Dynojet:
    https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda...-you-use-when-dyno-tuning-742573/#post8182424

This link here shows very similar values as well:
    https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generat...yno-3rd-vs-4th-gear-pulls-519840/#post5425203

Granted, some of these links are old and I'm not sure what the 3rd gear ratio is compared to 4th in these discussions, but they were all on the first page of Google so they're clearly referenced a lot by others (being that the most popular "hits" will show up first in a google search).

Some links even say that Dynojet is way off and typically shows up to 75 HP more than other Dyno brands.

Regardless though, running a Dyno in 3rd gear on multiple tunes should indeed show whether one tune has more power over the other I would imagine. The numbers may not be accurate, but as long as both are tested similarly, it should still show the difference.

Again, I have no personal experience, this is just from reading online discussions. But the more I read, the more I think it doesn't matter quite as much because the Dynojet knows the speed (based on speed the roller is moving) as well as the vehicle RPM's.

OK, thank you. But as it's not shown on the graph, is there any specific information available from anywhere that explains how the KD Max Pro tune achieves this faster response versus stock? Or is that information part of the underlying IP / "Secret Sauce" and thus can not be discussed? :typing: Thanks.

Hoping to get tuned this weekend by @McRib! Will post a follow up of my stock auto pro with 33s on the stock tune vs the pro. Have 50k on the stock tune so plenty of driving time.

Sally’s Apizza beats literally any NY slice.

I just wanna say- even though KD showed great improvements over stock file on a dyno, how many people are actually getting the tune based strictly off of HP/TQ gains? Many of my customers don’t but it’s nice we have new data to prove those gains.

Personally, as someone with a magnuson who is making 33% gains over stock I still miss having KDMax even NA and putting out less power. I think that speaks to the whole “drivability” factor pretty darn well. I also had a customer way back when take a Magnuson SC’d 3rd gen for a test drive at Larry H Miller in Boulder, he came to me later the same day for KDMax, and after he drove back to lyons (over an hour from Denver) he called me and said how much better KDMax felt over the supercharger. Just sayin.

Took my ‘22 TRD Sport to see @bulldogppas in Marion, OH this morning and he did a great job!

Not only was the process super simple but he was able to share his knowledge with me about how the tune works and what to really expect once the tune is installed.

I had a 100 mile drive home so I had the chance to test the tune a bit and my truck drives like it should now! The shift points are where they should be, the throttle response is better than I expected and it’s just an overall smoother feel for both city and highway driving. It’s nice to also be able to pass others and merge onto the highway with ease, whereas before you could literally feel the truck being held back when you tried to give it gas.

I an excited to see what the next few hundred miles brings as the truck learns the tune a bit more but I wanted to give Jim a shout out for making this an easy process and really going above and beyond in terms of the service/communication!

    none ):
    Quick question guys…

By chance do you guys know if the KD max tune affects with the DCM and the remote connect services?

I can’t get the key fob to turn on the truck and the dealer is asking for me to bring it because they might reflash the truck.. and might lose the tune I currently have ):

I assume it opens the throttle body faster.

The tune will not affect that. I'm driving a tuned 2020 and have no issues using my fob or phone to remote start the truck.

I supported the dyno runs in question from the FB junk show from Rett. I made the GL tunes for it. Stock tune was GL only, no TC lock/unlock changes in 3rd as I was expecting a 4th gear pull as that is more typical and stock locks TC in 4th.

An unlocked TC will provide a mechanical advantage allowing the engine to spin higher RPM under load, which from what I saw made higher HP/TQ. My opinion on this, is 1:1 gear with TC locked is the “best” method for running the dyno pulls as you are taking variables out of the equation. Just my opinion. I think a 3rd gear pull with a modified 3rd gear TC lock/unlock forcing TC to lock would also be ok, but that’s not what happened in this case.

I know you know a lot about tuning these trucks and have likely played around with TC lock/unlock to see how it changes things. Typically if you move shift points enough, you need to change TC lock/unlock as well to better work with new shift points. Make a tune where the TC doesn’t full lock in 5th gear and watch how well the truck can pull in 5th, but also keep an eye on your TC2 temps. It gets hot.

I’m not an expert in any of this, but I’ll share my opinions, but opinions are like assholes, everyone has one…

Yeah I saw that post by him and had a laugh. He is clearly a numbers queen and doesnt know the first thing about tuning. He clearly didnt understand that these tunes are not "max performance tunes" and more of everyday drivability tunes. Full pull numbers dont mean jack on a daily. I use to tune motorcycles and some hondas and I can tell you first hand that a LOT more work goes into making the best driving tune possible than just strapping it to the dyno, mashing your foot and seeing what the max output is. What do the fuel trims look like, how is the motor performing at 2300rpm under 23% throttle, how is it at 3500rpm with 43% throttle... Tons of things you have to look at. Its very unlikely that you will notice a 15-20hp gain in horsepower at 7k rpm but you will absolutely feel a gain of 20ft-lb of torque at 2500 rpm.

I'm not in disagreement with that at all, but locked TC seems to give higher numbers than unlocked. At least from what I have found online, like here. But with that, it could skew real numbers since WOT does not lock the TC.

I have also seen some people mention doing pulls with the TC locked could damage it.

So much conflicting info online, haha.

Just completed a 22 day 7,000 trip right after getting tuned. Pro with sport setting. Haven’t weighed the truck but it’s a heavy pig and a rolling brick! Here’s the specs:

    Stock gears

    275/85R16’s

Roam 95L boxes with maxtrax on the roof - call it 100lbs total

Waterport weekender between the boxes (empty)

    Decked system - 200lbs

    Leitner rack - 85lbs

    iKamper mini - 123lbs

CBI rear - 130lbs (200 minus the 70lb stock, maybe an additional 20th so for the wheel since the spare is smaller but steel)

Gear - call it 200lbs with heater, food, rest of the stuff

Call the total weight on the truck 850

I wasn’t expecting to get good mileage on the trip, and I didn’t. Averaged 11 mpg with 87 octane. Doing 75-80 during 90 percent of all the highway driving, going in to the wind the entire way west, didn’t help. But it DID hold that speed. I’d say 70 percent in 6th, 30 percent in 5th. Vail pass was 50/50 3rd and 4th gear to stay at the speed limit but that pass is a stone B! On the way back east, 90 percent 6th. That was impressive. Rolling easy on 50-55 mph roads the mpg would go up to around 15. All driving except for the pass was constant cruise control. We could have gone slower, will go slower next time. We’ll also refine our planning… But that’s a different story!

The truck climbs better, period. It’s a noticeable difference. Acceleration is better. Getting back on the highway after fill ups was cake. I was CONSTANTLY amazed at how it would just hold 6th up grades, as long as they weren’t too steep.

Only noticed two things that bugged me. First is that it still has that surging / vtec feel, it’s definitely not a smooth acceleration through the rpm’s. Second is that the throttle almost has a dead feel (almost loosing power) between about 1/2 and 3/4 of the way. It’s just frigging weird. Ideas? I’m going to run 91 non ethanol in it now that I’m home. It’s not even 5 miles to work. Maybe that will clear it up a little?

Overall, it’s awesome. With the core shifter especially, rowing gears is a joy. Makes me want to take all the crap off the truck just to see what it would be like empty!
