just a qucik thought.....do you have nerf bars??? and also....have you had the tires rotated and balanced anytime recently?? reason im asking......my 06 did this crap before.....and turns out that the nerf bar on the driver side moved a tad and the mounting plate was hitting the frame.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
I test drove and 08 rugged trail that did this. The salesman said it was cold out and that was why. What kind of popping? Like a slap, bang, subtle, unbearably loud?

well......just look at the mounting plates for the nerf bars.....you'll be able to tell if they are touching the frame in a way that would make them bang a bit. since you say it sounds like its coming from the bed though..............im gonna bet its the fender liners. go check those......they are known to come loose, and i believe there was a tsb for them also.

where can i check that? the TSB? i have a suspicion for those nerf bars because those seem to have more sense to them, you know. well their either are going to come off or get replaced.

evap canister is sometimes called a charcoal canister and it's an emissions venting thing. I probably wouldn't explain it very well (link below is better) but i can say that have the capability for some awfully load popping. in my old vehicle it sounded like somebody was hitting the floor with a rubber mallet

not too bad to clean man........hot water and carwash soap works pretty good. and to make bugs come off easier....get some aerospace 303 and spray on. good stuff there....and it dont attract dust!

aerospace 303 is that like that oil (lubricant) i might be thinking of something else.. or if you wanted to... use dryer sheets for bugs. my thread about it is in the Detailing forum.

more a fuel system deal. but it could sound like it was an exhaust deal - thats about the sound of a bum evap canister. you might have a broken exhaust mount or something, another good thing to check out

I just noticed this same exact noise on my 06 in the last couple weeks. It almost sounds like a faint blown speaker coming from underneath the glove box. It is terribly annoying.

It definitely sounds like an electrical thing. I have nerf bars and my tires were rotated <5K miles ago. I don't think it is the solution to this problem.
