my clutchmaster hydro kit crapped out on me after about a year and half. Truck is currently at the shop. the guys are going to see if it makes sense to try and fix what went wrong with the CM kit or they we're going back to stock set up. Im leaning more towards the stock and just living with the chirp again if I get it. :annoyed::frusty:

maybe the passage of time will play a nice role in this
if enough 3rd gens become common, old, manual, totaled and in junkyards
with their RC62F's otherwise not being sought after to increase the value
may make them easier to obtain for conversions in the future

I hope just the rubber seal can be replaced to fix it, to my knowledge they only sell that and a shim kit (optional) available on it's own

they offer a seal kit, but that may be what you are referring to. other than that there is not much to the kit. i do know when i ordered a new seal kit, the seal, "not the dust wiper" was different. maybe that is a improvement?

    also look at carpart.com
    maybe car pats.com
it is a search engine for used parts over multiple junk yards ? recyclers

So now Im curious. how big of an undertaking is it to get this to fit and work on our second gens? This is something I wouldn't do because I dont have the tools, knowledge, or space, But would this be an unreasonable/unrealistic request for a good shop? (this might be something I research and keep in my back pocket for down the road if I ever have another big set back)

Well, after following threads regarding the throwout bearing issue for over 10 years, it looks like I'm finally in the club. 115k miles and I've recently started noticing a sporadic chirp in neutral that stops if I touch the clutch pedal.

What's been concerning me more is that when engaging 1st from a stop I get the same noise, but louder. This only seems apparent in the morning when the air temp and truck are cold. This morning I was getting a loud giggling squeak when taking off, but nothing in neutral.

I'm wondering what to do from here. I've always loved the truck and it was always my long-term plan to keep it, but it sounds like a hooptie right now and I don't know if this thing is going to take a dump soon. I've read countless options over the years from T56 and RC62F swaps to hydro bearings and sleeve kits. As of right now, here are the options I'm considering from least to most expensive:
    • Do nothing and wait for the weather to get warmer
    • Have the TOB (and clutch pad) replaced and hope for another good 115k miles
    • Get rid of the truck and get a 3rd gen.

All three of those options are very biased to personal preference. There are a couple options as to replacing your TOB and clutch, and we can all give you recommendations on that. Doing nothing or buying a turd gen, that's on you.

Recommendations for TOB and clutch replacements would be greatly appreciated! I would be having any work done at a shop, since I don't have the space or time to be tackling transmission repairs myself.

Lol I don't really want to get a turd gen, mostly because I'm frugal and hate buying vehicles. Plus I really do love my truck.

Spec makes amazing clutches. I am running the 3+. You will need to either resurface your existing flywheel, or buy a new one. I have URD's lightweight flywheel, they also make a heavy one. Be sure to get the flywheel bolts as well, as it is highly recommended you replace those while you're in there. ARP makes the bolts. As for TOB, you can replace with stock, sleeve with URD, or go hydro with Clutchmasters. Its 50/50 on CM if you leak or run properly. Mine took about 5k miles, and a ridiculous amount of bleeding, to finally smooth out and work normally. Other dudes have them leak and fail. It's a toss up.

I've also read of slave cylinder modifications that result in more adequate pressure against the pressure plate fingers: replacing the slave cylinder, rebuilding it with a stronger spring, etc. There's even a youtube video where a guy fixes the chirp on his Subaru by taking a dremel to the slave cylinder mounting bolt holes and shifting it forward! o_O

How has your URD sleeve kit held up since you installed it? Smooth & quiet still?

Mine started chirping again after like 20k miles but its roughly half as loud as it was previously. Doesn't really bother me much.

Chirping began anew after installing the URD sleeve almost 20k later... little less than one year. I was very fortunate and found a listing on FB marketplace for a great deal. Seemingly less force to work the clutch, and quieted the chirp for awhile. I believe URD states it works ~80% of the time, every time.
Slave Cyl rebuild kit just arrived, so I'll be playing with that and adjusting the pedal some time soon.
Also, because of the old TOB wobbling on the shaft, hehe, there were some grooves worn. So, the sleeve was a great band-aid on what could've been a very expensive problem.

every now and again I hear a little bit of chirping with my HydroTOB, idk why. Maybe because it’s designed as constant contact. It goes away if I do a quick kick to the clutch pedal.

but I don’t worry about it because it’s nowhere near as bad as the stock part

stock part if I would’ve hired someone to hang underneath the truck or hide inside the bed screaming while I drive around, is pretty much how it was

and not in a good way
Some car noises are good like a rumble V8 but that was not

If I have another issue with mine I'll be doing the RC62 swap.

Still kinda planning on it anyways but hopefully not till it's time to do the clutch again and I have everything conveniently ready to go on the side already.

Dude, I thought it was just mine! It chirps super randomly during the beginning of engagement.
